Overall objectives of the post:
To be part of a team providing support for Children with severe learning disabilities, complex emotional and behavioural needs and mental health conditions. Enabling People Supported to maximise their individual potential for independence within their home and their community. Help create a home environment that is happy, safe, empowering and stimulating.
Location:
The Support worker is required to work at a designated location, ordinarily the home address of a person receiving support from UCS. You may be asked to provide cover at other service locations to assist the company to provide effective support to others. You may also be required to provide cover when covering on-call duties if staff cannot be found to cover
Support workers will be expected to:
1. Encourage the Supported Person to develop life skills in relation to domestic tasks, social activities, money management and relationships as appropriate to the individual.
2. Support the Person to carry out a range of household tasks, ensuring that high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained. The Supported Person’s independence must always be promoted.
3. To participate in the assessment of the Supported Person and the preparation of individual plans, implementing action plans and attending reviews as directed.
4. To be fully conversant and act in accordance with UCS’s Ltd.’s policies, procedures and systems.
5. Have a significant working knowledge of local safeguarding processes and to demonstrate in your work a full understanding of safeguarding processes.
6. Record and inform the service manager of any changes observed in physical health or behaviour and assist with any necessary action in emergencies.
7. Liaise with families, professionals, and Senior Management within UCS to ensure safe and effective support is delivered to the Person Supported.
8. Comply with legal responsibilities under Health and Safety legislation. Be aware of and act in accordance with internal rules and procedures relating to health and safety, infection control, fire safety and any relevant environmental health regulations.
9. Be familiar with and competent in all aspects of the role of support worker. Completing all E-Learning withing two months of start date. Completing safeguarding training before start date.
10. Uphold all aspects of the UCS ethos, to ensure the highest quality support is always delivered.
11. Have a working knowledge of UCS obligations using CQC and OFSTED guidelines. Understand the 9 Ofsted standards and support other colleagues with these.
