St Sidwell's Centre
Full Time Exeter, England 12.12 GBP HOURLY Today
Job description

We are on the look out for passionate people to join our Bakehouse and Café team.

TO APPLY YOU MUST USE OUR APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE AT: www.stsidwells.org.uk/work-with-us - we will not accept applications through any other format.

St Sidwell’s Community Centre

St Sidwell's is a diverse and vibrant community centre in the heart of Exeter. We offer volunteering and work-experience placements, run a community cafe and bakery, hire rooms to local organisations, grow veg, compost food waste, run ESOL classes - and lots more. We have a small staff team, and lots of committed volunteers.

We are committed to being inclusive and our volunteering opportunities are open to all, so we have a wide range of people with different skills and life experiences working together every day. You can find out more about our work on our website: www.stsidwells.org.uk

Food at St Sid’s

The Sidwell Street Café is right at the heart of community centre and it’s the first thing people experience when they walk in. We serve a range of affordable, homemade food with our staff team and volunteers. We have a strong focus on using surplus food, as well as some ingredients from our garden. We are planning to build a large greenhouse on our grounds later this year to increase the supply of salads etc! Currently our café operates Monday-Friday 9-3pm.

Volunteering in the café has always been one of the most popular choices for volunteers so in 2018 we set up a micro-bakery at the community centre to provide more volunteering placements as well as working towards a sustainable income stream for the centre. In 2020 we moved the bakery to new premises across the road in a disused shop. We make sourdough bread and treats using stoneground organic flour. The bakery currently operates Wednesday-Saturday with shifts starting from 5am.

Who are we looking for?

We are expanding our team and we are looking for two new staff members to be part of that. We are looking for people who love food and people – great cooks and bakers who are happy sharing their skills and knowledge and supporting others to learn. One role will primarily be based in the bakery and the other in the café, but we want staff to have regular opportunities to work across both sites. We are hiring for a total of 27.5 hours in the bakery and 27.5 hours in the café, but we are flexible about how this could work. It might be two people doing 27.5 hours each, someone working
35 hours across both sites and someone working 20 hours mainly at one site, or any other combination! Everyone in the team gets involved with all our other activities now and again.
