Support worker – Tier 2 Visa Sponsorship

Your key responsibilities as a care assistant include - Ideally for this role we are looking for someone who has experience of working with young people in a care setting, is passionate about supporting young people and holds, or is willing to work towards a Level 3 diploma in health and social care or equivalent. If you don’t have the experience or qualifications yet but share our commitment to developing confident and capable young people, we would like to hear from you.

Main duties:

1.​To assist in the provision of high-quality care, which meets the physical emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of Young People in line with Every Child Matters agenda.

2.​To act as Key Worker to a Young Person and take a direct role in Care Planning for clients and their families and to monitor and review client needs, ensuring that all plans fully meet the assessed needs of clients.

3.​To ensure that the physical environment of the establishment is welcoming, clean, tidy & comfortable and safe at all times – that the Health & Safety requirements are fulfilled and that the property is well maintained.

4.​To ensure that the care provided to Young People is appropriate to their needs, determined through consultation with Young People, their families and other professionals and is co-ordinated with other services involved.

5.​To take part in the statutory reviews of Young People “Looked After” who are care leavers and that the procedures and requirements are met.

6.​To organize and participate in meetings concerning individual Young People.  This includes planning meetings, strategy meetings, and disruption meetings and to provide reports, both verbally and in writing.  To ensure that their files are kept up-to-date and to write reports when necessary for both internal and external purposes.

7.​To work effectively with staff and Young People within OTCS as well as the needs of Young People “Looked After”.

8.​To carry out the financial and administrative procedures of OTCS appropriately in relation to petty cash and purchasing of goods for the company.

9.​To work as a member of a team and, in conjunction with the Responsible Person, Manager, the senior workers, assist in the day-to-day running of the service.  To undertake a work schedule rota that includes, evenings/waking nights and weekend duties, in conjunction with other staff, ensuring provision of a supportive, stable and secure environment.

10.​To participate in team meetings, attend supervision sessions and designated training in order to ensure good communication with the staff group, to disseminate necessary information and to develop an agreed and consistent ethos of care for the service.

11.​To help set up and participate in house meetings with Young People and other staff.

Responsibility for direct Work with young people

1.​To make and maintain positive, caring relationships with Young People and their families and to work effectively with other professionals involved in their care.  This will ensure that the physical, cultural and emotional needs of the Young People are catered for at all times.

2.​To establish and maintain daily routines within the accommodation, which provide a framework for the development of a positive culture of care.

3.​To provide advice and support to Young People in a manner that respects their diverse care needs, that encourage and assist independence and to organize and participate in various external and internal social and leisure activities.

4. ​To attend assessment, planning and review meetings for Young People.

5.​To act as a positive role model for and other staff offering advice, guidance and support where appropriate.

6.​To participate in and promote key working sessions with individual Young people with other Key Workers when appropriate.

7.​To ensure that fire drills are undertaken as required and that all Health & Safety, Food & Hygiene Regulations are adhered to. This includes ensuring that the accommodation is kept clean, supporting young people to maintain high levels of personal hygiene.  There will be occasions that this includes the cleaning of the accommodation on a day-to-day basis.

8.​To respond to emergency situations and take necessary decisions in relation to the safety of the Young People

Development of Professional Practice

1.​To attend regular supervision sessions with the designated supervisor.  To use each sessions to discuss work with Young People, the development of professional skills to assist this work.  This includes producing evidence that the common core principles are being maintained.

2.​In conjunction with the designated supervisor, to participate in a personal training and personal development plan based upon identified development needs.

3.​To assume lead responsibility for areas of work as requested and agreed with the designated supervisor.

Additional General Responsibility

1.​To participate in office duty arrangements.

2.​To undertake any other duties appropriate to the standard as may be required from time to time.
