Job description
Are you looking for work that is truly fulfilling? Do you want a job where your influence will continue long after your shift ends? Could you support adults with a learning disability to live the way they want?
We're looking for full-time and part-time Female Support Workers to join the friendly team at our Supported Living Service in Hemel Hempstead. The team support five fantastic adults who have a learning disability.
What will your day be like?
You will be supporting people like Stephen* and Julie. They each have their own mobility vehicles, this is great as we are able to use these to get into town and visit parks and local attraction's. It would help if you have a manual driving licence but it's not essential.
Stephen loves visiting the local coffee shops, he'd happily spend all day in one. He's not shy about introducing himself to other customers and staff and of course he'll introduce you to his new friends. He has diabetes so has to watch what he eats. Like the rest of us when it comes to food he's not great at following the rules. In his case he's happy to change the rules and a little friendly guidance and support is required. He can be quite persistent so sometimes its more than a little support to keep him following a healthy diet.
Julie loves music especially the favourites from when she was growing up. Her Spotify playlist is very well worn. You may get tired of hearing the same old songs but you won't get tired of seeing the pleasure they bring her, even more so if you'll join in and sing along. She loves going for a drive in her car. Sometimes she enjoys the journey as much the destination. Sometimes its good to just sit back, take in the sights and enjoy the wind in your hair.
Support with maintaining friendships and family connections. can make a real difference. You'll also support with everyday living needs such as cooking, shopping and helping them to become more independent.
You'll take your turn on a rota which includes early mornings, evenings and weekends. If you are interested in part-time work let us know which days work best for you, we can be flexible but ideally look for a minimum of two or three shifts per week.
“I came from a background in retail and this job has been a totally different experience. Each day is different and every day I go home feeling I truly made a difference in someone else's life, I just wish I had thought about this type of work sooner.” - Support Worker, 2021.
