Job description

In this position the right candidate will be responsible for the support, and safeguarding of young people aged 16+ in their journey into independent living.(No personal care involved).
This is an opportunity to help make the difference to a young person at a crucial time in their lives and help prepare them for independence and the transition into young adulthood. The young people you will work with can be both male and female and will mainly be care leavers. Many young people in care often have experienced certain levels of difficulty in their lives and usually have to start living independently much earlier than their peers, as a result of this some of the young people we work with face many challenging social and emotional difficulties which means that at times they can display behavioural concerns.
The right candidate must be confident , and authoritative, have a mature attitude and have an understanding of working with this age group. This role Requires a candidate who is able to command the respect of the young people and ensure suitable behaviour is maintained within the home ensuring that you can develop and maintain relationships with the young people, acting as a mentor and advisor and being someone they can trust and rely on as they make the transition into adulthood and full independence. It is important that you preserve a resilient character, are able to use your initiative to overcome problems and challenging situations and that you are confident, trustworthy and approachable.

the role involves days, weekends, bank holiday and overnight shifts (sleeping) and covering for holidays/sickness/extra staffing and appointments.

we work to a 4 week rolling rota so your shifts never change allowing you to plan your private life in advance

Experience within a similar role would be preferred, however full training will be given to the right applicant.

We would prefer someone with a childcare/youth work qualification or similar, and someone the young people will look up to as a parental figure.

M and MP Housing is committed to ensuring staff have the appropriate training to deliver a high level of support to the young people, consequently initial and ongoing training will be provided. You will also need to be computer literate.
