The job itself
We are looking for a Direct payment worker who is outgoing, energetic and fun to support a 14 year old boy who has a diagnosis of autism, Noonan syndrome, Type 1 Diabetes, stable pulmonary valve disorder, immune deficiency, dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder. He requires regular medical interventions and medical oversight. His diabetes is monitored on an app on his phone, however he needs supervision at all times as he doesn’t fully comprehend the consequences of eating too much glucose and his levels can be dangerously high, this can have an impact on his heart valve.
His interests include, coaches and buses, swimming, watching and playing football and being outside, exploring open spaces. He also loves anything to do with computer games. The young person plays for a football team and the support will include enabling access to weekly training sessions.
The worker should have knowledge of working with children with complex needs and should be approachable and confident in working with young people. The worker will also need to be flexible and understand that the day’s activities may be led by how the young person is feeling.
