Why does the job exist?
The New Mexico State Department of Information Technology endeavors to provide the highest levels of service delivery for Mission Critical Radio System & Wireless Communications to Regional, Local Government, Federal and Tribal Agencies for Law Enforcement, First Responder, Critical Services, and Public Works entities located and operating within the geographic areas of the State of New Mexico. The IT LMRs Systems Support Specialist works together with Radio Shop Team members to meet our customers needs, collaborate on scheduling and working together on rolling call -back after-hours schedule.
How does it get done?
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Practiced in using the Microsoft Office Operating System and be skillful in using applications such as Outlook, Word & Excel (Experience and practice in using Power Point, Visio, and other applications is also a plus).
- Practiced in IT Computer skills to be able to perform work within network domain, cloud-based environment, client to host connection & portal services.
- Practiced in using virtual collaborative workspace applications such as Teams, Webex, Zoom, Google Meet.
Work in both Radio Shop & Field Service support environments with experience (but not limited to the following) areas:
- Installation & Maintenance of radio subscriber equipment.
- Mobile LMR subscriber radios, including in-vehicle related peripherals & components.
- Hand-held LMR portable subscriber radios, including related peripherals & components.
- LMR Base Stations, Consolettes and all other related subscriber equipment including related peripherals & components.
Installation & Maintenance of Wireless Radio communication systems:
- UHF/VHF Legacy base & repeater infrastructure.
- VHF/700/800 P25 Digital Wireless infrastructure.
- Microwave Radio Network infrastructure.
- Antenna Systems & Antenna Structures.
- Radio dispatching systems.
Installation & Maintenance of I.P. data communication systems:
- Wireless data solutions.
- Data network transport solutions.
- Voice network transport solutions.
All work will be performed to the best standards available to ensure equipment is operating within manufacturer specifications and within the delivery specifications of the system.

Regional, Local Government, Federal, State and Tribal Agencies for Law Enforcement, First Responder Public Safety, Critical Services, and Public Works entities located and operating within the geographic areas of the State of New Mexico.
Ideal Candidate
- Will have completed course curriculum in Electronics Technology, have achieved manufacturer training course certificates, industry certifications or licenses. (Experience, studies, and training in areas such as Computers, Servers & Networks will also be considered)

Minimum Qualification
Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration or network administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License; obtain Defensive Driving Certification within 30 days of employment. Pre-employment background investigation is required, and employment is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Office setting, extensive personal computer, and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting to include extended periods working in a cold data center environment. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
