We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Secretary in the Paediatric Diabetes Team based at Colchester Hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person who is flexible and has excellent typing, administration and communication skills. You will need to ensure all clinical correspondence is typed and processed within specific timescales.
You will work as part of a friendly secretarial team, in a busy and vibrant office. You will need to be able to prioritise your workload, work without directs supervision and also use your initiative.

Consistent provision of comprehensive and efficient secretarial and administrative support. To utilise and incorporate the required technology/hospital systems including Big Hand/Evolve/Medway and any other new technology or system(s) that are introduced.
To use your own initiative, managing, prioritising, planning and organising own time using extensive knowledge, skills and experience.
To be a ‘Team Player’ working in a way that encourages high performance from other staff, with the aim of maintaining optimum efficiency within the department. To support other team members to deliver an efficient administrative and secretarial service

To provide general secretarial support to all areas of the admin team and cover sickness and holiday periods
To type clinic and admin letters using Big Hand. The confidential nature of all work concerning patients must be understood and safeguarded
Undertake self-supervision and effective self-organisation in terms of managing own workload on a day to day basis as well as managing colleagues workloads when covering sickness and holiday
To deal with day-to-day incoming mail according to the office policy, assigning priority and/or taking any necessary action
Use own initiative, skill and discretion when dealing with incoming telephone calls from patients/relatives/GP surgeries/other departments within the Hospital/outside organisations, independently dealing with or passing on queries/messages to the Consultant and other staff
To book appointments on to the relevant IT system
To carry out photocopying and filing as required
