YMCA Guildford Foyer is the YMCA Guildford’s Diversity Award-winning supported housing project, based in the heart of Guildford, providing high quality support and accommodation to 34 young people, ages 16-25. We support young people to develop socially and personally in order that they may grow in confidence and learn to live more independently.
As a team, we encourage and support young people to achieve their goals, from education to employment, for their mental health and emotional wellbeing. With the support we provide to young people, every day is different as we learn new skills, and this helps us to empower young people to better manage their finances and mental health.
You will be part of a team, tasked with supporting and inspiring young people, the role is challenging, yet rewarding and includes several key responsibilities; you will support a caseload of young people or adults at risk, using a trauma informed and advantage thinking approach to support them in achieving their goals. A key focus will be to coach young people to manage their occupancy agreement and adhere to house rules, in preparation for independent living and promote a credit culture, encouraging young people to keep up to date with all payments for rent. You will enable young people to articulate and achieve their ambitions and support residents to acquire skills they need to lead independent, fulfilling lives.
This role is on a rolling rota, working 5 days in 7 days, consisting of two shifts 8am-4pm and 2pm-10pm including weekends and bank holidays. You will get to know the team and project, along with extensive training prior to starting on a rota.

A successful applicant will love being involved in the support and growth of young people and will be able to actively encourage residents into education, training, and employment. You will be passionate about supporting young people to lead in independent lives, enjoy working in an exciting, fast-paced environment, have a sense of humour and the drive to deliver an outstanding service. You will be able to facilitate a process of development that allows the young person to take the lead in identifying actions and goals, along with learning about the key risks, challenges, and opportunities for our client group. Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience of working with young people leaving care, along with an awareness of all aspects of safeguarding.
