This role is based in the London Region led by Claire Burton, Regional Director. We look after the 32 Local Authorities in London. You will be part of a 5-person Directors Office team who work together to provide strategic support and advice to the Regional Director and Senior Leadership Team. We ensure processes and operational delivery are efficient, user-centred, and in line with DfE guidance.
This is fast-paced work where you will be expected to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.

Job description
You’ll spend much of your time providing strategic support and advice to the Regional Director and Senior Leadership Team, ensuring processes and operational delivery are efficient, user-centred, and in line with DfE guidance.
Your role will be critical in assisting in the delivery of the day-to-day management of the Directors office functions and immediate tasks whilst also playing an important role in shaping and delivering strategic and operational processes.
This is fast-paced work where you will be expected to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
Depending on delivery priorities, you could also spend some of your time:
Working across your region and/or with other regions:
- Supporting the effective delivery of work that cuts across regions and / or has national significance, e.g. contributing to a national portfolio work stream or Schools White Paper implementation.
This is a vital role where you will undertake a diverse range of tasks to contribute to the successful running of the Directors Office and the delivery of the London Region and wider department objectives.
- Lead on administration processes, including scheduling meetings, managing diary appointments, preparing agendas, taking minutes, ensuring actions are assigned and completed, provide cover for the London Regions diary and highlighting and escalating emerging issues.
- Provide support for the management and response to the day-to-day queries which come into the diary and take responsibility for providing clear commissions and collating responses to requests for information or action from all appropriate stakeholders.
- Provide support for the coordination of financial, recruitment and governance processes.
- Ability to process often complex information quickly and accurately, monitor progress against timelines and communicate findings.
- Take on adhoc tasks as they arise.

Essential criteria:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment, including getting up to speed quickly and being flexible when needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and able to share ideas and information in an accessible way to colleagues at all levels and accurately identify issues which need escalation or collaboration.
- Excellent team working skills, being flexible and adaptable to support the wider team goals, as a collaborative team member, you will be enthusiastic about providing support and challenge to colleagues.
- Experience of forming and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external partners.
- Excellent ability to multitask and monitor own work to tight timescales, and ability to assess your own workload to ensure priorities are met.

Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DfE, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.

Terms and conditions of candidates transferring from ALBs and NDPBs
Bodies that are not accredited by the Civil Service Commission and are not able to advertise at Across Government on Civil Service jobs will be treated as external new starters and will come into DfE on modernised terms and conditions with a salary at the band minimum.
Bodies that are accredited by the Civil Service Commission but do not have civil service status will be offered modernised terms and will not have continuous service recognised for leave or sickness benefits. Salaries should be offered at band minimum, but there is some flexibility where this would cause a detriment to the individual.
Bodies that are accredited by the Civil Service Commission and do have Civil Service status will be treated as OGD transfers. Staff appointed on lateral transfer will move on to pre-modernised DfE terms (unless they were on modernised terms in their previous organisation). Staff appointed on promotion will move on to modernised DfE terms. Staff will transfer over on their existing salary (on lateral transfer) and any pay above the DfE pay band maximum will be paid as a mark time allowance. Staff moving on promotion will have their salaries calculated using the principles set out in the attached OGD transfer supplementary information.
