Education required: To apply for this placement, you must be:
Currently studying an undergraduate degree in Business, Science, Maths, Engineering or a related subject.
Other requirements: You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) university for the duration of your placement.
If you have already graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.
Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English
Expected Start date: July 2024
Duration: 1 year (approximately)
Salary: A salary of £21,400 plus a bonus

Global Supply Chain (GSC) is the group within GSK that is responsible for making and supplying medicines and vaccines across the globe. At our manufacturing sites we produce over 2.3 billion medication packs and vaccines doses to 90% of the world's countries.
During this placement you’ll be taking a lead role in our production or warehouse and logistics department ensuring our products get to our patients safely and efficiently. You’ll learn about and assist with:
Inventory management - including life cycle management of our products
Maintaining safety standards by carrying out audits
Materials scheduling
Data analysis to identify and implement improvement opportunities
Investigating any distribution and logistics issues and recommending solutions
Product flow optimisation through the supply chain
Investigation of any quality issues using Root Cause Analysis, which could delay release of product.
Development of Key Performance Indicators and trends which will help manage the business and drive improvement

Role/Location 1: Barnard Castle

Role/Location 1: Barnard Castle
The Barnard Castle site is located in the Northeast of England is sited within the County Durham countryside. Barnard Castle is a key secondary site for GSK with a large number of New Products coming through development at site. We manufacture and supply a huge range of different pharmaceutical products from Sterile Products (Syringes and Vials) to Liquid Inhalations and Dermatologicals. We have recently opened a new state of the art aseptic digital facility producing biopharmaceuticals.
A variety of opportunities exist within our supply and logistics team. You may work in the logistics team, supporting the End to End (E2E) Supply Chain for pharmaceutical products, where you would be expected to deliver on business or compliance improvement projects. Opportunities will also arise to support day to day operations working in a safe and compliant manner. You will be tasked with turning data into information and insights to inform business decisions, enabling you to develop and implement data analytics and reporting capabilities. Exposure to this high volume and fast paced environment will build a great understanding of the E2E supply chain.
Opportunities also exist within the warehouse team providing the support required to ensure the area is Audit Ready and fully compliant with Safety and Quality standards at all times. The successful candidate will support major projects, New Product Introduction activity and lead minor projects. There will be the opportunity to get involved with purchasing consumables from external vendors. The successful candidate will also be involved with continuous improvement activities to support with maintaining a high standard warehouse, looking into digital applications for warehousing and promoting efficiencies wherever possible. To be successful in this role you will need to have strong data analytics skills with a keen attention to detail.
Role/Location 2: Worthing
GSK Worthing recently celebrated 60 years of manufacturing pharmaceutical products. Our key product is an antibiotic, and we manufacture approx. 50 million packs per year supplying patients around the world. Our site is situated on the South Coast about 30 minutes from Brighton and 1 hour by train from London, offering a good degree of extracurricular activities outside of work.
Several roles are available in our production and supply and improvement teams. You will support the end-to-end supply chain for Augmentin, working closely with Worthing’s Augmentin supply chain sites of GSK Irvine and GSK Mayenne to identify warehouse opportunities for the Antibiotics business and Continuous Improvement Opportunities. Additionally, you will support the local team by advising the business on Key Performance indicators and trends.
Other opportunities exist to work closely with manufacturing, logistics and warehousing teams and have the opportunity to deliver a business improvement project. You will experience how quality deviations impact product flow and how these occurrences can be minimised through undertaking root cause analysis. Working closely with the warehouse team, you will assist the team in ensuring the area is Audit Ready and fully compliant with Safety and Quality standards at all times.
This fast-paced role requires a candidate who is a logical thinker, can communicate with people at all levels of the organisation and who has an interest in data. This is an opportunity to gain skills which are transferrable to other industries and a wide variety of roles
