Supply Chain and Operations Associate, Part-Time

Supply Chain and Operations Associate, Part-Time London, England

Seabound
Full Time London, England 10.56 - 12.04 GBP Today
Job description

BACKGROUND

The shipping industry accounts for ~3% of global CO2 emissions. If it were a country, it would rank above Germany (the 6th largest emitter in the world).

Currently, there’s no solution for ships to go 100% clean. Alternative power sources like hydrogen, ammonia, and onboard batteries are still 10-20 years away from maturity for large ships.

ABOUT SEABOUND

Seabound captures CO2 emissions from ships.

We are building a retrofittable device that traps the CO2 from a ship’s exhaust gas. It has the potential to be one of the simplest, safest, and most affordable solutions for zero-emissions shipping.

In 2022, we proved the concept on land and secured 6 LOIs (Letters of Intent) from major shipowners to purchase our systems from 2024 onwards. In the next 6-12 months, we will develop and demonstrate our first capture unit at sea.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Supply Chain and Operations Associate, you will play a critical role in Seabound’s first-ever carbon capture demonstration onboard a ship. You will contribute to procuring essential ingredients for the demonstration project and assist the founders in the day-to-day management of the project. The responsibilities you own will directly contribute to preventing greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere and will be instrumental in decarbonizing the shipping industry.

This part-time role requires 10-20 hours of work per week and has the possibility of converting to a full-time role in the future.

What You’ll Do:

  • Accelerate the procurement of parts, machinery, and materials, as well as the securing of sites and contracts necessary for the successful demonstration of Seabound’s ship-based carbon capture pilot. This could include:

    • Researching potential suppliers and partner companies

    • Speaking with relevant contacts in your/our network for recommendations and advice

    • Sending out requests for quotes

    • Issuing purchase orders

    • Keeping track of quotes and orders

    • Staying on top of the budget and timeline

  • Support the day-to-day operational responsibilities for the pilot project and for the company overall

  • Identify and recommend improvements to existing operating procedures or recommend new processes

  • Monitor supplier performance, manage supply chain risks, and highlight opportunities; resolve issues with suppliers to ensure contractual compliance with regard to timeline and quality

  • Participate in on-site assessments of suppliers to determine supplier capacity and capability when needed

  • Work within a cross-functional team alongside customers, suppliers, contractors, and partners to accelerate product development

  • Anything else that needs to be done in an early-stage startup

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for:

  • A recent graduate or a 3rd/last year student at a university majoring in Logistics, Supply Chain, Production, Engineering, Business Management, or a similar discipline

  • The ideal candidate would be based in London, but this person could also work remotely from a similar time zone

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to interface effectively with key stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors

  • Strong organizational skills and tech savviness (comfortable with picking up new software tools)

  • Someone who is results-driven, analytical, highly reliable, and eager to invent and simplify current processes and practices

  • Drive, enthusiasm, and curiosity

  • Passion for tackling the climate crisis

  • Ability to operate effectively with high degrees of uncertainty and to execute tasks against tight timelines and aggressive schedules

Seabound is an equal-opportunity employer. We value diversity and strive to create an environment that is inclusive to all employees.
