Job description

We are delighted to announce that 2023 will see the relaunch of our young persons’ Summer placement scheme, for the third cohort.


We are looking to recruit ten 14 – 16 year olds to join our team and work at The Headland Hotel over the Summer period to gain valuable work experience, to enhance your natural skills, confidence and ability to help prepare you for your future careers and hopefully to continue working with us.


ABOUT THE PROGRAM

We offer a pay rate at £8.81 per hour + service charge, paid on a monthly basis directly into the young person’s bank account. Holiday will be accrued as you work, and can be taken once accrued.


The work placements will vary across the business within the following departments, and many young people will be able to experience more than one department:

  • The Terrace Restaurant x 3
  • The RenMor Restaurant x 4
  • Housekeeping x 2
  • Porters x 1


All successful candidates will have followed the recruitment and training process.

Please be sure to make a note of these dates in terms of availability as the process will only be available on this basis.

We would ideally like the students to be able to work through the whole duration of the placement so please do let us know if you have any prior commitments during the Summer as part of your video application.


WHAT TO DO NOW AND WHAT HAPPENS NEXT……..

1 - Send your 1 minute video (and no longer than 1 minute please!) applications via our website by 1st March 2023.

In your video, tell us:

  • who you are
  • what your best quality is that you would bring to the role
  • why you would like to be on the placement
  • if you were an animal, what would you be and why

We know that you are bursting with creativity and are looking forward to candidates and videos which really stand out and also support our 5* values.


In your application you will need to confirm the following:

  • Full name
  • Date of Birth
  • Address
  • Your Right to Work status in the UK
  • Confirmation that you have or will have your own bank account by March 2023
  • Parent/Guardian or Carer name and contact details
  • Any prior commitments for Summer 2023 (please provide dates)
  • Details about how you heard about the placement scheme (school/careers event/social media/through a friend)


2 - The first stage selection will be communicated in w/c 6th March to invite the shortlisted candidates to the next stage of the selection process on which will be held one afternoon in w/c 3rd April, at the hotel.


3 – The shortlisted candidates will be invited to the hotel with a parent/guardian/carer for an introduction to the placement, an overview for the parents/guardians/carers as to the structure of the placement and a team exercise for the young people to be involved in to assist with the final selection.


4 – During w/c 10th April 2023 we will confirm the list of ten young people who have been successful during the selection process.


5 – Summer half term (Saturday 27th May to Sunday 4th June 2023) – We will require all successful students to attend 2 morning sessions of training in preparation for the Summer. There will also be an opportunity for any keen young people to get a head start on their placement if they would like to work during the half term week.


6 - The 6-week work placement will commence from the day after you break up from school in July and we will look forward to a busy and fun Summer working together.


7 - We will hold a graduation ceremony for all young people, with one parent/guardian/carer invited to the hotel to attend.
