Job description
The Summer Internship Programme is designed to provide Interns with a taster of the end-to-end development process, providing an opportunity to work on real life projects. You will also attend online presentations delivered by experts in the field to gain an understanding of how our teams acquire sites, undertake de-risking/technical due diligence activities, secure planning consents, dispose of sites and monitor development sites including post-contract activities.
This six-week, online, Summer Internship Programme (24th July 2023 until 01st September 2023) is a rare chance to build your development-based commercial and business skills through on the job learning and practical work experience in a fast growing, national organisation with a social purpose.
Working with in a small team you will contribute to preparing reports, briefs, case studies and deliver presentations to secure buy-in from senior colleagues on a proposed de-risking and disposal strategy.
You will be taught how to draw together any relevant policies, site histories and local context pertaining to a site to ascertain the potential of securing a planning consent. In addition, you will be taught how land values are generated. You will learn how to identify, select, assemble, and analyse data relevant to undertaking development appraisals/residual valuations.
You will be working alongside surveyors, planners, engineers, land buyers, policy professionals, project, programme & portfolio managers, economists, financial and budget managers who are committed to making a positive change to deliver the much-needed homes. Whilst our day job is to bring forward sites that would otherwise remain undeveloped; add value to sites to generate a financial return; sell our own land and partner across the public sector to deliver a range of tenures; act as master developer and work to create a thriving environment for current and future market players; encourage housebuilders to adopt quality design, MMC and build out at pace; actively support SME builders to create a more resilient markets.
You will be willing to "spin several plates" at once and will always be looking for ways to improve and innovate. You will be team orientated and results focused and can demonstrate attention to detail, willingness to learn, excellent communication, negotiation and organisational skills. Comfortable with drafting reports and project management. You will be proficient in using Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams.
