Our ICBCS Summer Internship Programme

ICBC Standard Bank is a leading Global Markets bank, offering Commodities and Foreign Exchange, Interest Rates and Credit (FIC) products with a focus on Emerging and Frontier markets.

We believe our internships offer a fantastic platform to shape your future career. The Summer Internship Programme is run yearly in multiple functions and regions across ICBCS, for 12 weeks, from mid June mid September. We aim to build a diverse junior talent pipeline for entry level or graduate roles in the Bank, while also providing interns an opportunity to be immersed in a Banking culture and demonstrate real value add within their roles. Our intern programme offers centrally run events to enhance networking, training opportunities and career support. This role will work in our London Office, which is located near St Pauls and Bank stations. For our summer internship programme, we would expect you to spend most of your time in the London office.

There are different ICBCS Summer Intern roles available as per the below. You will need to specify which business area you wish to apply for in your application (see further details below on how to apply).

Client Management Unit (CMU) KYC

The KYC team plays an integral part in the governance of client risk management. The prime purpose of the role is to conduct timely and accurate screening for our client base. A high level of attention to detail will be needed in this role.

Compliance

Compliance (Surveillance)

This role will sit within the Surveillance Governance and Controls team. The Surveillance Governance and Controls team is in charge of review the control framework and perform quality assurance to ensure effectiveness of the controls. This role will undertake research and analysis, systems testing and evaluations and support ad hoc projects and planning activities.

Legal and Compliance

The Legal Department provides legal advisory and transactional support to all divisions of ICBC Standard Bank. The Compliance Department provides regulatory and other advisory support to the front office. We are looking for a summer intern to work across the legal and compliance team to assist with numerous projects and documentation review.

Executive Office

This role will provide an opportunity for an individual to support the CEO office on key strategic initiatives by delivering quality research on global market environment and trending analysis, product indicatives, ESG and culture related topics. In addition, this role will also involve working across different functions within the bank to gain broader understanding of the bank's business.

Finance

Product Control

Acts as an independent control department to help ensure the integrity of the Bank's financial statements through independent verification of the daily and monthly Profit and loss account, balance sheet reconciliation and preparation of Management Information. At its core it involves preparing daily P&L reporting for a trading desk or group of trading desks within a specific asset class (e.g. Commodities, Rates, Credit).

Management Information

Responsible for the accounting processes associated with Operating Expenses and Client Revenue tracking, as well as for producing financial analysis to monitor the bank's performance.The role wil get exposure to Financial reporting and variance analysis and liaising with stakeholders to update monthly rolling budgets and forecasts for headcount and expenses.

Treasury Capital Management

Responsible for the calculation, reporting and commentary of the Bank's capital and liquidity positions as well as all prudential returns to the Pudential Regulation Authority and Bank of England. The role will assist in the timely and accurate completion and submission of all capital and liquidity returns and provision of management information.

Financial Reporting

Responsible for General Ledger control processes, Balance Sheet Substantiation and change management for key static data attributes used across financial reporting, as well as internal Management Information and compliance reporting. The role will assist in reviewing and investigating requests for changes or creation to master data as well as producing internal dashboards and MI.

Global Markets Commodities

Metals

The Metals Sales business forms part of the Metals department within Global Markets. The business is responsible for Precious and Base Metals Sales. The business offers cash, derivative and financing products in both physical and paper form, direct access for clients to LME and clearing and vaulting services for physical precious metals.

Energy

The Energy business is one of the three pillars of the Commodities Division within Global Markets; responsible for all Sales and Trading activities in Iron Ore, Crude oil and refined products. The business offers cash, derivative and financing products in both physical and paper form.

Global Markets FIC

Origination

To support the Global Markets Sales and Origination teams:

  • Liaise with various internal teams to on including Legal, KYC, travel booking teams, Operations and IT
  • Assist with various processes such as, the pre-trade checks (adaptive, market risk teams, credit risk teams) as well as post trade bookings
  • Drafting of documents required in the BAU environment, including but not limited to drafting presentations for management or clients, term sheets, credit risk forms, minutes on internal and external calls or invoices for clients.

Investor Sales

Flow Sales deals with the coverage of our investor sales force across the plethora of products that we trade in CEEMEA, China and Latam. We are a multi-product team with degrees of specialty but we all trade and have knowledge around every product we offer.

Human Resources

HR Business Partnering

The primary interface between HR and the business is a team of HR Business Partners (HRBPs), who work with other areas of the HR function to deliver core HR processes (recruitment, learning and development, talent, employee relations) as well as HR projects. This role will be involved in HR administration to support these key processes and projects.

HR Operations

This job sits within the HR Operations team and will be part of a team that is the first point of contact and will be responsible for establishing and preserving strong relationships with internal clients, providing accurate and timely customer service, preparing documentation, systems maintenance and end to end HR lifecycle administration (e.g. onboarding, offboarding).

Operations

Commodities Operations

The Commodities Operations team supports 3 key areas of the Trading Division; Base Metals, Precious Metals and Energy. Each team has its distinct roles and functions covering both the physical and financial aspects of the business throughout the trade life cycle.

We have 2 intern roles:

One role will help support the Commodities Business Development Director in the reporting of key development dashboards, documentation of new business flows and helping to redesign and develop management information presentation packs.

The other role will help support the Physical Precious Metals Manager by working with various departments within the bank to document key process flows, light administrative duties such as taking minutes in meetings and helping to explore different ways of working to aid efficiency within the work place.

FIC & Banking Operations

The Operations department is responsible for ensuring the complete end-to-end processing of the Bank's transactions and services. They are responsible for ensuring that the appropriate control framework exists to ensure the accuracy of this processing as well as the recording of this in the Bank's books and records. You will learn about operational controls and meet client needs, support the team in daily activities, look for efficiencies and work on projects including regulatory change. There are 2 roles available in Cash Management and FIC Settlements.

Operations Control (Balance Sheet and Reconciliation Control)

This role helps ensure an effective reconciliation management capability across Operations. The role is support the governance of reconciliations as well as the execution of a number of reconciliations. In particular the role holder will be responsible for several key controls such as the contra, stock and nostro reconciliations.

Risk Model Validation

Model validation acts as the second line of defence on Model Risk and validates the models used in the Bank. The role will assist with counterparty credit risk model validation, validating credit rating models, and the validation of the models from a mathematical and implementation perspective and the applicability (i.e. the strengths, weaknesses, model assumptions and limitations) of the models.

Technology

Technlogy develops the vital systems that support the Bank's front and back office operations. We work with the business to define requirements, manage change and deliver secure trading platforms.

We will offer 2 intern roles:

One role in Global production Sercives (GPS) to assist the Service Operations Manager in provision of support services, operational documentation, and process implementation/documentation across multiple facets of the role.

The other role will be in IT Security which ensures that technology processes and activities comply with all regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures relating to information security. The Technology Risk and Information Security team currently provides a technology risk service to over 100 different applications and a wide range of infrastructure operating systems and databases across London, NY and Asia and an information security service to the whole firm
