Job description
Bringing fresh perspectives to Intelligence.
Working pattern: Full-time for duration of Internship (10 or 11 weeks)
GCHQ, MI5 and MI6 may be different organisations, but we share the same goal. We keep the UK safe. GCHQ safeguards the UK’s digital homeland, MI5 protects our national security and MI6 focuses on threats from overseas. Our operations are hugely varied, and bringing in fresh perspectives is essential to their success. That’s why we’re re-opening our Summer Intelligence Internship scheme.
Over the course of the summer, you’ll develop new skills, work on real-life projects, and discover if a career in intelligence is right for you. You could help keep the UK safe from cyber threats at GCHQ, support national security operations at MI5, or help MI6 mitigate threats from overseas. Whichever agency you choose, you’ll be part of a welcoming team where your insights are encouraged and valued.
If you’re in your penultimate or final year of university, from a Black, Asian or ethnic minority background, and from a socially or economically disadvantaged background*, you can now register your interest. This is a unique opportunity to help piece together intelligence, analyse threats and be part of our mission. All you need to bring is curiosity and fresh perspectives. In return, we’ll provide all the training and support. We’ll even cover the costs of your accommodation; a fully-equipped shared flat with free Wi-Fi, close to local amenities.
For more information on eligibility for the Internship, please visit our Internship Page.
The application window for the Summer Intelligence Internship will open on 30th August 2023. While you wait for the application window to open, you can register your interest by following the Submit button below.
Please note that a registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself. Any individuals who register their interest and who decide subsequently to apply to the Summer Intelligence Internship, will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened.
- We are confining registrations of interest to those from Black heritage, Asian or ethnic minority and low socio-economic backgrounds, due to their current under-representation in our workforce. All eligible applicants will be assessed solely on merit.
