About the Role

Lockheed Martin UK Strategic Systems is looking for a Submarine Field Engineer (Trainee) to join the team based in Barrow-in-Furness. This role benefits from out 9/75 work pattern, giving you every other Friday off.

As our Submarine Field Engineer (Trainee) you will join the business at an entry level and be provided with extensive specialist training and career development. Training will largely be undertaken at HMNB (Naval Base) in Helensburgh, Scotland and may include periods of detached duty in Bristol, Plymouth and the USA. Thereafter, the successful candidate will become part of the Strategic Weapon Organisation (SWO), forming an integral part of the team responsible for the installation, commissioning, testing and providing test result analysis to validate the strategic weapon system onboard the next generation Dreadnought class submarines.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Degree, HNC, HND, Level 5 Apprenticeship or equivalent in an Electrical, Electronics, Engineering or related discipline
  • Looking to pursue a career or some hands on experience in a Technical Engineering role
  • Able to take ownership of tasks as delegated and drive them through to successful conclusion to agreed deadlines
  • Ability to function as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding the requirement to adhere to applicable documentation within a highly prescriptive environment
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.
Desirable skills
  • SWS Strategic Weapons Systems experience
  • Navigation Systems experience

Lockheed Martin UK – Strategic Systems (LMUK SS) is the single contractor providing specialist Waterfront In-Service Support to one of the Royal Navy's Submarine Programs. The company provides the Ministry of Defence (MoD) with safe, efficient and responsive support. LMUK SS, as part of the ABL Alliance with AWE and Babcock, is also responsible for the management of operations at RNAD Coulport.
