The role
As a Subject Matter Expert for Constructive Engineering, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you'll focus on improving Engineers’ understanding of, and support to in-service maintenance, whilst providing input from the in-service domain into programme efficiency and sustainability initiatives and also future submarine design and supportability programmes. Alongside conducting technical tasking, a key aspect of achieving this will be through developing, maintaining and executing a capability development plan for the sustainability and growth of in-service knowledge and support.
Day to day, you’ll develop and deliver training media to improve in-service maintenance and decision-making domain knowledge of engineers, as well as:
- Provide independent technical assurance of tasks to improve the value of the output to the customer, across the Constructive Group and wider In-Service Engineering teams
- Identify, assess, and exploit emerging techniques and technologies to advance the capability of Babcock to better support in-service engineering and customer decision making
- Represent Babcock at in-service and future submarine forums for technical and strategic business development purposes
- Coordinate, contribute, and advise on the production of technical papers to enhance the awareness and reputation of Babcock within the international submarine constructive engineering domain
Essential experience of the Subject Matter Expert for Constructive Engineering:
- Extensive experience of in-service submarine constructive maintenance, support and engineering, and a leader that embraces and champions the care and growth of team members
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of submarine constructive engineering, operation and maintenance, and familiarity with the submarine support community and wider submarine enterprise
This role is full time and is a hybrid role with 2 days per week based onsite at Bristol in the Babcock technology Centre.
Qualifications for the Subject Matter Expert for Constructive Engineering:
- Degree qualified in a STEM discipline and be registered as a Chartered Engineer (or hold extensive experience and be prepared to register as a Chartered Engineer)
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
