DESCRIPTION
New part-time (20 hours per week) temporary opportunity available in the Craft Center at UC San Diego, which serves both campus and external community practitioners in the various disciplines of artistic craftsmanship, as well as individuals through all sectors interested in arts or artistic pursuits. In the Fall of 2025 the Craft Center arts portfolio will expand to include a new state of the art Glass Lab.
Under the direction of the Craft Center Manager, the Glass Lab Studio Coordinator oversees the general administration of the Glass Lab Studios. Will serve as a subject matter expert in glass art including glass blowing, teaching, and glass studio management. Incumbent is ultimately responsible for:
- Program development in coordination with the Craft Center Manager.
- Helping to develop a list of consumables and materials needed for all studios.
- Development of safety protocols.
- Working with the Craft Center manager on proposed class offerings and staffing models.
- Collaborating on recruitment of instructors and technical staff.
- Consulting on equipment use training and protocols.
- Partnering and consulting with vendors, equipment specialists, and project/ design team.
- Conducting market research on other glass labs, studios, and facilities.
- Providing support in the development of operational plans.
Anticipated Duration: 5 - 6 months
Compensation: $27 - $32.52 / hour, including vacation leave and potential holiday/sick pay. Basic medical insurance also available.
Location: This position will be fully on-site on the main La Jolla campus.
Work schedule: Part-time Monday - Friday, 20 hours per week based on scheduling needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have specific experience with glass blowing teaching and learning, glass studios, glass artwork and technical expertise in the art of glass blowing.
Must have significant expertise and professional experience in multiple glass art practices and art fields, and running a glass studio for a teaching and learning environment.
Knowledge of related tools, equipment, and safety protocols.
Ability to promote effective collaboration and communication up, down, and across the organization.
Ability to lead with a mission-driven spirit of collaboration, community service, and entrepreneurialism.
Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, simultaneously.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $43,900 - $91,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $21.02 - $44.01
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
