Job description

Are you passionate about creating a safe and inclusive environment for students? Are you committed to providing support to students in difficult circumstances? If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join our new team as a Student Support Adviser (Harassment & Sexual Misconduct) within Student Services. We are a team that sits within the Academic Services directorate comprising specialist student support teams including Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice, Disability Advisory Service, Careers Service, Chaplaincy, Sexual Misconduct and Harassment Support, and support for Priority Group students.

Imperial College London is a world-leading university dedicated to providing an outstanding learning environment for our students. We prioritise student safety and wellbeing, and we are committed to maintaining a campus free from harassment and sexual misconduct. We believe in encouraging a supportive, compassionate community that values respect, inclusivity, and equality.

This is a new role, established to offer specialised, trauma-informed emotional and practical support to students of all genders who have experienced harassment, discrimination or sexual misconduct. You will be a primary point of contact and will collaborate with a range of people across the College to coordinate support. You will assist students to understand their rights, available resources, and reporting options, both within the institution and externally.

Duties and responsibilities

You will work in our Student Services team to provide emotional and practical support to students responding to the College's Student Disciplinary procedures. You will be a primary point of contact and guidance, assisting students to understand their rights and the available resources both internal and external to the institution. Ensuring compliance with GDPR, you will maintain complete and accurate records of student disclosures while advising students on the limits of confidentiality.

You will build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues working in welfare-related roles across the College that enable you to work collaboratively to coordinate support. Furthermore, you will support the delivery of relevant training to colleagues across the institution and support with building awareness of the reporting tools.

Essential requirements

We're looking for people with a strong understanding of trauma-informed care, the dynamics and effects of sexual violence, unhealthy relationships, and forms of harassment relating to protected characteristics. You will have a proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion who has significant experience with case management and supporting individuals in a similar role or at a similar level. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability and confidence to provide non-judgmental and empathetic support, explaining complex issues in an accessible way. You will have strong organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.

You will be knowledgeable about current issues affecting the Higher Education sector, particularly in relation to supporting students with disclosures of bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct or violence. Additionally, you will have a good understanding of the support services available to students internal and external to a university environment.

If you are passionate about supporting students, creating a safe environment, and playing a crucial role in addressing harassment and sexual misconduct on campus, we would love to hear from you.
