This is an Industrial Placement for an Undergraduate – offering a breadth of experience encompassing all aspects of the business.

To suit students studying any of the following:

Brockleby’s Pies are a small family business employing up to 40 staff on the edge of Melton Mowbray, best known as the Rural Capital of Food. Brockleby's are a retail baker that prides itself in sourcing local ingredients and handmaking a range of savoury pies each with their own story. We sell our pies through mail order, home delivery, wholesale and markets/shows and events and are proud to have achieved the highly sought after accolade of Supreme Champion Pie in the 2023 British Pie Awards!

The successful student will benefit greatly from the opportunity to work in a wide variety of areas of the business including marketing, sales, production, account management and logistics.

Marketing Team

Your job will be focused on marketing our pies by being part of our marketing team. Within this you will be responsible for our sales and event management, this is crucial as our whole business is operated around attending weekly events. You will be assisting our marketing manager in creating effective marketing materials to use throughout various campaigns. You will become proficient in google advertising and direct mailing through various channels and be responsible for these campaigns when implemented into our marketing strategy.

You will have an opportunity to manage our social media pages and interact with our followers through various channels and gain an understanding of how best to target people through each channel. you will be using these channels to maintain and improve our public relations amongst sales and general information.

Sales Team Management

On a weekend you will help to manage the sales team that attends our weekend events. You will be responsible for the logistics and preparation of our sales team for the weekend. Managing the event inventory for each member of the team will give our staff the best chance of high sales figures. you will become a sales representative also, attending various markets and selling our Pies to the public.

On office days there will be a chance to manage our online sales process. From packaging up our parcels to liaising with couriers, to provide our customers with reliable delivery of our much-loved Pies.

Production Management

After gaining a hands-on experience in the production of our pies, you will be reviewing the recipes and costing of our products. This is vital to maintaining a good margin on our product.

Every food business follows a food safety protocol, each year we review this. For your training, you will help to review our HACCP documentation and update it where necessary.

You can lead a team of students in a ‘new product development’ project that we team up with the University of Nottingham to create. During our winter period, you will be creating, marketing, and delivering our very own Christmas hamper.

Accounts Management

You will have the chance to manage the accounts for the business. You will be gathering and referencing our purchase orders to our transactions. You will be completing both bank account and delivery reconciliations making sure transactions relate to the supporting documents. You will be internally auditing the business and analysing transaction and sales data.

Home Delivery Service Management

There is an opportunity to manage for a limited period of time, the complete operation of this part of the business which includes direct sales to home delivery customers order processing, order fulfilment, logistics and customer service.

Remuneration: above the minimum wage

Hours: flexible but generally 5 days in 7 and two weekend days a month.

Commencement: ideally in June 2023 or before 1 September 2023.
