Job description

Are you passionate about creating a safe and inclusive environment for students? Are you committed to providing support to students in difficult circumstances? If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join our new team as a Student Discipline Support Adviser (Responding Students) within Student Services. We are a team that sits within the Academic Services directorate comprising specialist student support teams including Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice, Disability Advisory Service, Careers Service, Chaplaincy, Sexual Misconduct and Harassment Support, and support for Priority Group students.

Imperial College London is a world-leading university dedicated to providing an outstanding learning environment for our students. We prioritise student safety and wellbeing, and we are committed to maintaining a campus free from harassment and sexual misconduct. We believe in encouraging a supportive, compassionate community that values respect, inclusivity, and equality.

This is a new role, established to offer trauma-informed emotional and practical support to students who are responding parties being investigated under the College’s Disciplinary procedures to ensure their welfare and support with their positive engagement in disciplinary procedures. This role will act as a primary point of contact to ensure that students can access the College’s regulations and procedures, equipping them with information and support in order to effectively engage with each stage of the process.

Duties and responsibilities

You will work in our Student Services team to provide emotional and practical support to students responding to the College's Student Disciplinary procedures. You will be a primary point of contact and guidance, assisting students to understand their rights and the available resources both internal and external to the institution. Ensuring compliance with GDPR, you will maintain complete and accurate records of student disclosures while advising students on the limits of confidentiality.

You will build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues working in welfare-related roles across the College that enable you to work collaboratively to coordinate support. Furthermore, you will support the delivery of relevant training to colleagues across the institution and support with building awareness of the reporting tools.

Essential requirements

We are looking for someone with a proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion who has significant experience with case management and supporting individuals in a similar role or at a similar level. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability and confidence to provide non-judgmental and empathetic support, explaining complex issues in an accessible way. You will have strong organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.

You will be knowledgeable about current issues affecting the Higher Education sector, particularly in relation to supporting students with disclosures of bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct or violence. Additionally, you will have a good understanding of the support services available to students internal and external to a university environment.

Further information

Full details of this role can be found in the Job Description.

This is full-time role offered on a permanent contract, however we will consider requests for job share arrangements at the point of application. This role will be based at the South Kensington Campus and eligible for hybrid working.

We offer a plethora of staff benefits, including generous annual leave entitlements and pension schemes, which you can find out more about on our Benefits page.

Candidates will need to apply via our online application system. We expect a supporting statement which would explain, in about 2 sides of A4, how your qualifications, skills and experience meet the requirements of the role.

The deadline for applications is midnight on Monday 28th August. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview with anticipated interview dates being 12th or 13th September.
