Description:
Under the direction of the Vice-Provost, Students and Vice-Provost, Strategic Enrolment Management, and working closely with academic administrators and staff in the Division of the Vice-President and Provost (DVPP), the Manager, Student Data & Analytics provides leadership in the development of structures, tools, and practices to institutionalize a data-driven culture of student success.
The incumbent will take a lead role in coordinating and executing a Provostial student data strategy. The Manager oversees a team focused on providing reliable and timely high-level qualitative and quantitative data reporting and analytics that supports planning, policy formulation and decision making, and develops short and long term strategies that provide stakeholders with reliable data analyses and reporting designed to assist them in making intelligence-based decisions. The Manager develops a framework for assessing the success of student data and analysis projects to ensure they are aligned with the Provostial mission.
The incumbent manages engagement through partnership, collaboration, integration and knowledge sharing with Innovation in Undergraduate Education/Academic Programs, School of Graduate Studies, Planning and Budget including Institutional Research and Data Governance (IRDG), and other offices across the institution
The responsibilities associated with this role are distinct from those already connected to the management of student records that support academic operations, including the corresponding operational reports.
Qualification Required:
Education:
Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Social Sciences, Information, Data Sciences, or Business Administration (or equivalent) with a strong quantitative background.- Possible combination of education and experience with a strong emphasis on quantitative, statistical, and business intelligence.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years related experience in statistical analysis, demographic analysis, computer-assisted analysis, and/or operations research.- Experience in mapping suitable analytic solutions to ensure required performance data can be reliably tracked and reported.
- Experience with survey design and research and in quantitative and qualitative research methods and statistics.
- Project management, time management and communication skills necessary to execute the responsibilities in a collaborative, academic setting.
- Demonstrated experience working with aggregate data, and gathering, analyzing and presenting data in a professional and confidential manner using most appropriate data gathering and analysis tools and software.
- Administrative experience in a university setting, establishing protocols, administering and interpreting policies, rules and regulations, and developing systems or similar administrative processes, especially in an environment with distributed approval authority. Managerial experience considered a strong asset.
Skills:
Excellent demonstrated leadership skills.- Detailed knowledge of ROSI or a similar system is required.
- Experience with Stata, SPSS, R, R-Studio, SQL, VBA, Python or similar software for descriptive and inferential statistical analysis and predictive modeling.
- Experience with Tableau or similar data visualization software. Aptitude in systems thinking, analytical ability, problem-solving strength.
- Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills. Ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex projects.
- Detail-oriented, strong analytical and conceptual thinking. Highly familiar with business intelligence structures (relational or dimensional modelling).
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work in ambiguous situations with multiple interruptions and conflicting deadlines.
- Ability to be creative in the development of ideas and combining of data sources to facilitate analyses.
Other:
Ability to build strong relationships with diverse cross-functional subject matter experts (SMEs) and key stakeholders to analyze requirements and recommend realistic strategies.- Experience engaging senior management and business leads to align on strategies, feasibility, and delivery of data services.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Leadership skills: ability to set priorities, foster a strong team environment, coach staff and assess performance.
- Tact, diplomacy, judgment, and the ability to analyze and problem solve.
- Must combine a strong customer service ethic with adherence to strict University and Divisional policies.
- Ability to master and apply a large, complex and changing set of rules and policies.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
