Job description
Lancaster University Students’ Union provides excellent services and opportunities supporting and inspiring our diverse population of over 15,000 students to make the most of their experiences at University. As one of our flagship services, the Students’ Union Advice Service provide students with independent advice and guidance on a range of issues and academic matters, together with undertaking associated casework to analyse complex problems and recommend solutions. We are now looking for a highly effective, experienced Student Advice Caseworker to join our well established team.
This role will work with staff and full-time student officers to support the day-to day running of our student advice service, helping us to develop social policy, lobby for change to university policies and procedures, support student welfare officers and design and deliver student focused and impact based welfare campaigns.
As a Student Advice Caseworker, you will provide professional, impartial and confidential support to all students. As an expert in advice and advocacy work, your role will provide one-to-one advice and support to students. You will be responsible (in conjunction with the rest of the Advice Team) for providing high quality and student friendly advice covering a range of academic, housing and student welfare issues. This will involve undertaking casework with individual students, enabling them to understand and make their own choices and where necessary representing them at university hearings/appeals. You will also play a central role in helping the Students’ Union Advice Service to achieve its goal of achieving the Advice Quality Standard.
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience of supporting advice service operations and activities as well as recent experience of casework provision and a working understanding of the current guidelines, legislation and best practice relating to student support, advice and guidance.
If you are able to demonstrate proven knowledge and understanding of the current issues and themes affecting higher education students, and looking for your next challenge within a supportive, engaging organisation, this role is for you.
Due to the nature of the post, you will be required to work on campus.

This is a full-time permanent role. As a Students' Union, we have a hugely diverse membership and we're working towards our staff team reflecting this; we'd welcome any applications from black and minority ethnic candidates that help us to achieve this.
