We are hiring for 1 position at our Maple Ridge Office to join our growing team. CLC Law is a Family and Criminal Law firm located in Maple Ridge. CLC Law provides comprehensive legal services throughout the Lower Mainland for all levels of court and some administrative tribunals.
We offer free consultations, assist legal aid clients and contribute to the legal profession in a an ongoing probono capacity whenever possible. We understand that each matter is different and work closely with our clients to provide personalized and professional services.
As an articling student you will part of a fast paced, intensive, varied learning experience. You will learn all aspects of court processes as well as hands-on experience to assist in your development as a lawyer.
We offer the following experience:
- Preparing materials for court including Applications, Responses, Affidavits, Settlement Offers, Trial Briefs, Financial Statements, Divorce packages, and a full range of other documents;
- Drafting correspondence to other lawyers and clients;
- Assisting in managing court files with another lawyer;
- Legal research;
- Attending client meetings, mediation, settlement meetings;
- Preparing materials for trial
- Court appearances;
- Use of technological tools to assist you with clients such as CLIO, Divorcemate, Court Services Online, Email filing, Fax filing, shared network drive and calendar, online research options.
- Administrative processes within the firm and their integration with legal proceedings
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Qualifications:
- Completion of LLB or JD at a Canadian University or equivalent
- Ability to apply legal education to real-life situations
- Excellent ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing
- Ability to adapt to a changing needs environment depending on client needs and deadlines
- Ability to work independently to plan, coordinate, organize and prioritize workload
- Proficiency in Mac office software as well as PC including word processing, spreadsheets and databases
- Understanding of social justice
Assets:
- Office Administration Skills
- Legal experience (through volunteering, school programs, summer jobs, work experience, or otherwise) Knowledge of Family Law, Child Protection and Criminal Law rules and procedures
- Experience and interest in litigation
- Court or Tribunal experience (through assisting lawyers, volunteer work, coursework, personal experience or other) or comfortable appearing in a court setting
- Knowledge of CLIO and Divorcemate
- Experience working in a Law office or within the legal profession (volunteering or otherwise)
