Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
As the guardian of Scotland’s water supply, Scottish Water actively tracks and monitors potential risks that could disrupt Scotland’s water network.
We’re developing and preparing to deploy WRAP – our industry leading Water Risk Assessment Platform. It will be our central hub for reporting and managing risks and hazards. It will give us an objective source-to-tap view of the network and allow us to take steps necessary to protect our national water supply.
What you’ll do
As a Strategic Planner with the Water Risk Transformation team, you will play a leading role in shaping the way we use WRAP. The Risk Analysis team within Water Risk Transformation design, review and improve the assessments that make up WRAP, and allow our operational and specialist teams to take and track any necessary action.
This is a role with lots of touch points. You can expect to be engaging with a range of water safety planning specialists, including internal departments, regulators, and government bodies, to develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the hazards within their remit.
You’ll oversee the continuous improvement and development of risk assessment logic and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategic plans to make our risk approach future-proof. That will include being an active member of the Interdisciplinary Group that overseas our Water Supply Risk Management approach.
Finally, you’ll track our performance, developing and maintaining strategic performance indicators and metrics to measure progress and track the achievement of key goals.
What you’ll need
It’s important that you understand risk-based decision making and have some experience of either risk management or asset management within the water industry (or other similar industries).
We’re working on essential national infrastructure – so we operate in a heavily regulated environment. Experience of working with tight governance and controls will be key.
The role incorporates both data analytics and a high degree of people interaction – so you’ll need to be comfortable with both: Data-wise, you’ll need good analytical skills with the ability to gather, interpret, and analyse complex data to drive informed decision-making.
People-wise, you’ll need a friendly and positive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external stakeholders. You’ll also need to be a confident communicator and able to break down complex information into clear and concise language for different audiences.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
This is a full time job, working Monday to Friday from 9-5pm. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
The starting salary for this role will be between £35,384 and £47,924
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Thursday 1st June 2023. And we’re aiming to do interviews for this role w/c 17th July 2023.
