STRATEGIC EVIDENCE OFFICER
Salary: £33,500 - £36,000 per annum
Reports to: Senior Strategic Evidence Manager
Department: Policy, Information and Communications
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time 35 hours per week. We’re open to a variety of flexible working options including job share, compressed hours, and flexible hours with core hours of 10am - 4pm.
Location: Stratford, London. Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office).

We have an exciting opportunity for a Strategic Evidence Officer to join us. We need you to support our work to influence policy and practice for patient benefit by reviewing, consolidating and disseminating cancer related evidence across the cancer pathway including Diagnosis, Treatment and other topics as required.
Our policy department at Cancer Research UK develops evidence-based policy to inform Government decisions related to cancer and research and communicates our views to key decision makers. We are the largest charitable funder of cancer research in the world, and one of the most trusted charities in the UK.
We are uniquely placed to inform political debate. We work with Parliamentarians across all four seats of government in the UK – Westminster, Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive. By doing so, we ensure that their policies tackle the major risk factors for cancer including alcohol, obesity, diet and sun awareness.
Further to this, we focus on a number of other areas of policy including supporting science, access to treatment, early diagnosis and cancer services. We advocate to ensure that the UK can produce world class research, that people with cancer can access the best available treatments and care and that diagnosing cancer early remains a priority in our health service.
Through our global policy programme, we work with partners around the world to improve global tobacco control and HPV vaccination.
What will I be doing?
- Developing a sound knowledge of the research evidence (peer reviewed and grey literature) and other data and insight relevant to cancer – both research and activities funded by CRUK and others.
- Monitoring and reviewing research evidence, including peer reviewed and other publications, and interpret findings
- Interpreting and synthesising findings and writing reports on evidence and other content/outputs as required, in order to feed into strategy, policy and practice
- Supporting the strategic evidence managers, senior manager and head in consolidating evidence, data and insight and establishing their significance, relevance and likely importance for future activity and/or translation into policy/practice for patient benefit
- Tracking planned/ongoing research, working closely with the team and colleagues in the Evidence and Implementation department and liaising with researchers and others as appropriate
- Disseminating evidence knowledge and synthesis to several audiences, internal and external
- Supporting other teams across the charity with developing evidence-based content/outputs/resources.
What skills are you looking for?
- Strong evidence searching, reviewing and critical appraisal skills, with ability to distil to the key points quickly
- Ability to translate complex information for a range of audiences, with a sharp eye for detail
- Relevant previous experience of working in the science, health or policy sectors
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Confident self-starter, able to manage own workload and operate to tight deadlines
- Positive ‘can do’ attitude with excellent problem-solving skills
- Experience of building effective working relationships and partnerships with colleagues, health professionals and other stakeholders.
