Full Time 40hrs, 5.6 weeks holiday, Staff Discount, Performance Bonus of £1k.

Minimum 2 years Retail Store Manager experience required.

Forecourt experience preferred, but not essential.

Job Purpose
To be responsible for the day-to-day good running of a site to ensure that customers receive the best possible service whilst remaining within the budgetary limits set by the Company.

Reports to: Area Manager

Location: Hexham Road, Front Street, Swalwell, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE16 3DW

Key Accountabilities

BUDGET MANAGEMENT

  • Maximise sales whilst remaining within the budgets set by the Company

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Set an example to staff by always demonstrating a high level of customer service
  • Ensure a high standard of customer service is delivered at all times by staff
  • Carry out Sales Assistant / Supervisor duties as and when required in the interests of maintaining a high level of customer service

STOCK CONTROL

  • Ensure that stock is controlled efficiently
  • Place stock orders and oversee deliveries in accordance with Company procedure
  • Ensure that stock is rotated and date checks are regularly carried out
  • Ensure that stock is regularly replenished
  • Carry out quarterly and / or weekly stock takes

SITE PRESENTATION / MERCHANDISING

  • Ensure that the store is well presented and all point of sale material is displayed in accordance with planograms
  • Ensure that high standards of housekeeping are maintained throughout the site

FUEL / FORECOURT MANAGEMENT

  • Order and manage the fuel for the site
  • Ensure forecourt meets Company and statutory standards

ADMINISTRATION

  • Ensure that all paperwork and administration relating to the site is carried out effectively and on time
  • Manage and maintain all site systems (e.g., back-office IT, CCTV etc.)
  • Action all promotions in a timely manner

SECURITY

  • Ensure the safety of the premises and all personnel, cash, stock and property by complying with security procedures (with the support of the Area Manager).
  • Act as a key holder and attend the premises outside normal trading hours in the event of an alarm activation

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Manage staff rotas to ensure that there is optimum cover available to run the site, and assume ultimate responsibility for keeping the site open should cover be unavailable
  • Manage and motivate staff effectively to ensure that they always conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and deliver good customer service
  • Delegate all site duties effectively
  • Conduct on the job training with staff in all aspects of their duties and develop them to achieve their potential
  • Carry out informal performance discussions in consultation with the Area Manager
  • Refer issues of poor performance or misconduct to the Area Manager
  • Ensure that holiday arrangements are effectively managed
  • Display enthusiasm and commitment by leadership

COMMUNICATION

  • Liaise regularly with the Area Manager to keep him / her informed regarding the day-to-day running of the site and competitor activity
  • Communicate Company information, policy and procedure updates etc to all employees via notice boards, staff meetings or any other appropriate means
  • Liaise with external agencies and authorities as required
  • Liaise with and utilise any available support from suppliers

SITE MAINTENANCE / HYGIENE

  • Manage upkeep and maintenance of all equipment and report any issues promptly
  • Ensure that standards of hygiene and cleanliness are met and that routine cleaning is carried out

TRAINING

  • Conduct induction and on the job training with staff in all aspects of their duties and develop them to achieve their potential

LEGAL COMPLIANCE

  • Act as license holder for the sale of alcohol on the premises and comply with all legal requirements relating to that license
  • Comply with all legal requirements regarding the sale of petroleum spirit
  • Ensure date and temperature checks are regularly carried out
  • Assume ultimate responsibility for compliance with all Trading Standards requirements

HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures and regulations and ensure that all staff are aware of those procedures and their responsibilities.
