About the Job:

This retail management position is responsible for the operation of our Georgetown Garden Centre. The Manager reports directly to the Vice President of Retail Operations and is accountable for the financial success of the store, the performance of the staff, execution of the marketing plan and the presentation of the facilities.

Your Accountabilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the store, drives sales, gross margin and profit and is accountable for overall store performance.
  • Create business strategies to attract new customers, expand store traffic and maximize profitability by meeting/exceeding sales targets.
  • Drive strategic initiatives in all retail, B2B and Landscape Supply channels at the store level.
  • Provide exemplary leadership-by-example, demonstrating corporate standards of excellence and holding staff accountable.
  • Deliver excellent guest service to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, supervise, coach and mentor employees.
  • Develop talent by providing frequent and comprehensive performance feedback, identifying high-potential employees, and offering challenging assignments as part of their retention, succession planning and development.
  • Inspire and motivate your team to meet sales objectives by training and mentoring staff.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Accurately forecast labour by scheduling employees to ensure optimal floor coverage to provide the best guest experience.
  • Managing budgets and operating costs.
  • Lead the team in all aspects of store readiness and cleanliness, health and safety practices and directives, and ensure compliance with all policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Respond to customer complaints and concerns in a professional manner.
  • Ensure all products are received properly.
  • Oversee and control shrink and loss.
  • Optimize sales opportunities through the execution of merchandising strategies.
  • Liaising with Head Office.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 3+ years’ retail management experience; horticultural expertise and product knowledge preferred.
  • Strong business acumen with a proven track record of repeatedly achieving long-term strategic sales targets and service goals.
  • Experience in preparing budgets and business plans as well as the ability to read and interpret financial statement and reports.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop and motivate employees.
  • Big picture thinker with an eye for details and a passion for sales and upholding an exceptional customer experience.
  • Strong leader that drives results, develops talent, and exceeds customer expectations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple demands, setting priorities, making decisions, and exercising best judgement.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • High standard of professionalism with excellent communication, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships and work collaboratively to achieve goals.
  • This job requires extended period of walking and standing as well as the ability to work in various weather conditions and environments. The flexibility to work a variety of shifts including day, evening, weekends, and holidays is required.
