Store Manager - Café Ami (VGH)
Cafe Ami VGH is a locally owned and operated coffee shop providing coffee and food services to the hospital staff, patients and visitors seven days a week (5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.). Café Ami has a full-time job opening for an experienced Manager or individual with supervisory experience looking to take the next step.
The Store Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the store from open-to-close, seven days a week with the help of the team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Staffing – hiring, training, scheduling, meeting labour costs, and firing. Currently we have around 20+ employees including Supervisors and an Assistant Manager at this location.
- Food & Beverage (F&B) – overseeing food preparation and helping with necessary, F&B training, ensuring retail consistency, ordering, new product development and meeting cost expectations.
- Catering – working customers to answer questions and confirm catering via email and phone. Proactive planning with the Catering Supervisor to coordinate smooth preparation, delivery, pick-up, and payments.
- Customer Service – serving on the front line when necessary and maintaining customer satisfaction.
- Monthly Inventory
- Coordination of Equipment Repairs with approved suppliers - proactive planning for routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Coordinate with the managers at our other stores when necessary
- Ensuring all internal standard-operating procedures (SOPs) are followed in order to meet/exceed Vancouver Coastal Health requirements.
The ideal candidate is a motivated, solutions orientated individual who enjoys being busy, and thrives putting his/her organizational and people skills into action! Additional pre-requisites include:
- Supervisory/Management Experience in the food & beverage industry
- Minimum of 2+ years of Coffee or Cafe experience
- Minimum 2+ years of experience hiring, training and scheduling staff shifts
- Minimum 1+ year of experience in food preparation (can be basic sandwiches, salads, wraps etc.)
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong people management skills
- Computer Literate (MS Word, MS Excel etc.)
- Proven analytical abilities (i.e. ability to understand & meet food costs, percentage labour etc.)
- Process orientated
- Work schedule flexibility is an asset to cover “gaps” in the schedule if necessary.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Vaccinations – in order to work in the hospital, all staff must have had (or get) their childhood vaccinations and have an annual flu shot (COVID shot if required).
- Valid FoodSafe certification is needed.
Other:
- Compensation: competitive hourly rate based on experience with room to grow, generally work an 8.5-hour day, which includes a half hour lunch break.
