Hours & Rate of Pay: 39 Hours per week, £10.92 per hour
Monday – Thursday 06:50 – 15:30, Friday 06:50 – 14:30 (these hours will vary across the season)
Job Overview
We are a wholesale plant nursery supplying containerized shrubs, herbaceous, grasses, trees and ferns to the amenity and garden center markets. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working individual to join our team at an exciting time in the company’s history. The ideal candidate would be expected to work both outside and inside polytunnels/glasshouses. IT competency is required, and a good understanding of Microsoft Excel is a must. The successful applicant will be working primarily within the growing team where they assist with making sure plants are ready for sale at a high quality and to correct timings. In busy times the applicant will switch to our stock control department where they will assist the team with managing stock levels, making changes to stock and ensuring quality plants are available to sell.
Key Responsibilities - Horticultural Grower
1. To liaise with the growing Supervisor to receive and understand tasks.
2. Caning and tying of crops to standard or customer requirements.
3. Trimming of crops by hand or machine as deemed appropriate by the Supervisor.
4. To aid with the lifting and movement of potted crops which may be large.
5. Drive tractor for growing operations and for despatch lifting orders as required.
6. To work outside in all weathers as required.
7. Tidying of crops to remove old foliage or flower heads.
8. Grading of crops for specific customers or markets.
9. To be aware of safe and efficient working practices to gain maximum productivity and minimum down time.
10. Continual personal development of horticultural knowledge through plant idents and in- house training.
11. Liaise with supervisor regarding holiday and sick cover.
Key Responsibilities – Stock Control Assistant
- Stock control role to be initiated in busy times/cover for stock control members.
- To have sufficient understanding of stock control processes for both amenity and garden centre markets.
- To be able to remove stock, move stock, regrade, change lifting priorities, and carry out stock adjustments on Microsoft Dynamics computer system (Training provided).
- To assist with annual stock take.
- To understand quality requirements of both markets.
- To be able to work independently on small batches of crops, including skipping.
- To lift auction stock when required.
- To have excellent communication between production/sales/despatch.
