Key Publishing is Europe’s foremost transport publisher, producing market-leading magazines within all sectors of aviation, rail, bus and modelling. With notable publications such as FlyPast, Airliner World, Modern Railways and Hornby Magazine, we are renowned around the globe for our wide range of magazines and digital media.
We are currently seeking a Staff Writer on a full-time, permanent basis working across Hornby Magazine and KeyModelWorld.
Role Summary
The Staff Writer for the railway modelling sector will fulfil the growing day to day needs of Hornby Magazine and the model railways section of KeyModelWorld producing quality editorial news, reviews and features on time to drive and support the developing multi-media audience.
The Staff Writer will need to demonstrate excellent knowledge and passion for model railways, railways in general and the sector. They should be willing to participate in video content, events and other media when required for the benefit of the railway modelling sector and demonstrate an understanding of the model railway market.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Reporting to the Editor and working with the Hornby Magazine/KeyModelWorld editorial team, the Staff Writer will be responsible for:
· Writing clear and concise news stories for Hornby Magazine and KeyModelWorld
· Writing and researching product reviews for Hornby Magazine and KeyModelWorld
· Writing and researching features for Hornby Magazine and KeyModelWorld
· Prompt delivery of written content
· Clear and informed written content with effective and accurate research
· Compilation of the Show Guide for Hornby Magazine and KeyModelWorld
· Representative of the brands at model railway and sector related events
· Use of social media to promote content
· Proof reading of magazine content
Person Specification:
Essential skills, experience & knowledge required for this role:
· One year of work experience
· Good knowledge of social media
· A strong knowledge of MS Office including Excel
· Advanced computer literacy including short keys and internet publishing
· Ability to react quickly in an ever-changing and demanding environment
· Good communicator at all levels
· Excellent time management skills
· Excellent model railway knowledge
· Modelling skills
An understanding of the publishing process is desirable but not essential
Aptitudes/ Attributes:
You should possess the ability to react quickly in an ever-changing and demanding environment and be able to communicate at all levels. You shall have excellent project management skills, be self-motivated and have a good use of written and verbal English with a keen eye for detail.
The role will be office based at Stamford, Lincolnshire, with the opportunity to work from home on a hybrid basis in line with company policy. You will need to work on your own initiative and to be able to travel as required to attend events and related site visits.
