Are you a caring, compassionate and communicative nurse, who has an interest in supporting older adults in their mental health needs?
We, at The Fulbrook Centre, are looking for dedicated nurses, with a passion for learning, to make a real difference on our inpatient wards. You may have experience or may be newly qualified and wanting to develop new skills, either way, we'd love to hear from you! The Fulbrook Centre has 2 Older Adult Mental Health Inpatient Wards. We are interested in hearing from dual or Mental Health Registered staff.
Sandford ward is a 14 bedded ward providing care to male older adults, providing acute psychiatric assessment and treatment for Oxfordshire patients with either a functional and/or organic illness.
We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic staff with a Registered Mental Health qualification, with a passion for working with older people.Our staff are also expected to have strong skills regarding physical comorbidities. We are working towards the recovery model, have achieved our QNOAMHS accreditation and received a good rating from CQC.
You will have a vital role in improving the lives of our Older Adult Service Users. You will be assessing, planning, treating, monitoring and evaluating their care, alongside a caring and supportive multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
You will have the skills to develop a strong therapeutic relationship, in order to provide the right psychological and emotional support to both the patients and their carers. You will need to use your interpersonal skills and a person centred approach in order to apply holistic care to ensure we are meeting both the physical and mental health needs of each individual. You will have the opportunity to work on a 1:1 basis.
You will be involved in shift co-ordination, administering medication, attending to personal and physical health needs of patients and will also need to undertake administrative duties.
There is scope for learning with our further education partners and the opportunity to take part in research with our Research partners and with our ward Psychologist including enhancing physical health care, working with carers and managing Violence and aggression.
The Trust now have a specific 2 year preceptorship course for newly qualified Nurses and Allied Health Professionals.

Our nursing shifts involve a variety of earlies, lates, long days and nights, and you have the opportunity, thanks to our roster system, to plan ahead and have advanced notification (generally 3 months in advance) of what you will be working. This gives you the opportunity to plan your life events to achieve that positive work-life balance.
Please note:
- New starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale.
- Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
- Appointment to this post is subject to the trust receiving satisfactory references covering 3 years of employment or study. Please ask your referees to respond promptly to reference requests.
