We have a exciting opportunity for a registered nurse to work on our Dementia friendly medical ward. Ward C5 is a 14 bedded ward Your Home in Hospital”.
The staffs on ward have played an enormous role in enabling ward C5 to retain the SPEC status (silver ward), since 2017, through their dedication, teamwork and ‘Person Centred Care’.
We can offer you a Practice Educator providing a structured and bespoke orientation programme; this will support your revalidation and ongoing professional development, if you are a newly qualified nurse you will be enrolled in to the preceptorship programme.
All mandatory training is supported by the Trust and the Practice Educator; on commencement of your role you will be given an induction pack and a bespoke competency pack to aid your development.
Highly skilled clinical nurses will support your development. If you are keen to enhance your acute clinical care skills then this is the area for you. Working in a diverse, fast paced, rapidly changing and clinically challenging environment.
For the newly registered nurse we offer a full preceptorship course which is classroom based study days and then backed up with ward based practice. Preceptorship. The registered nurse will then be able to complete the following activities for their patients and gain the following knowledge and skills:
- Recording and monitoring vital observations, including blood sugars
- Assessing, planning and implementing care for a variety of patients with different care needs and providing direct care.
- Venepuncture and IV administration
- Administering medication as per ELHT policy
- Administering intravenous medication
- Ensuring nutritional status is maintained
- Accurately documenting in the notes all activities/changes which need to be recorded and review of the care plans
- Supporting safe discharges for patients, sometimes complex discharge planning
- Care of the poorly patient - life support and AIMS

Thus enabling, we could jointly continue to provide a care that is Safe, Personal and Effective.
The role of the registered nurse is that of an able and competent worker who can carry out a wide range of supervised and unsupervised care duties directly with the patient which will support the work of the multi – disciplinary team, working days and nights including bank holidays and the Christmas period. The successful applicant must be extremely confidential and professional when carrying out their duties due to the nature of the work.
