We are an 18 bedded Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward, providing care for patients admitted to the hospital as result of an emergency admission. The ward provides care for a variety of injuries including fractures, soft tissue trauma and spinal injuries.

Injuries can vary from relatively minor lacerations to complex road traffic trauma patients who require input from the plastic surgeons. We offer nurses a chance to develop their expertise in a range of orthopaedic skills within a friendly, welcoming team. Level 11 West is an ideal environment for both newly qualified nurses and for those wishing for gain experience within a new setting

We are able to offer opportunities for development and are in the process of developing an in-house accredited Orthopaedic module, which will be offered to Nurses working in the Trauma and Orthopaedic departments. We have a Practice Development Nurse to support you with your induction, learning new skills and ongoing daily support.

In addition there is a preceptorship programme in place within the trust for newly qualified nurses. We also offer the opportunity to undertake additional roles within the ward, such as link nurse roles, which will be supported with additional training.

Caring for predominantly orthoapedic patients. Some patients require surgical intervention, others are treated conservatively.

All trained members of staff are responsible for admitting and discharging patients, caring for patients pre and post operatively, administering medications, including IV therapy and blood products, monitoring and assessing wounds, communicating with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team.
