Chippenham Town Academy are looking to continue the upward trajectory of the football club. A young, progressive and innovative academy which now has a proven track record of success and development as one of the leading academies in the south west. For the 2023/2024 season, the academy will continue to strive for excellence in all areas. Staff will provide the academy players' with the best opportunity to fulfil their potential both physically and mentally.
The academy is now looking to recruit Sports science and S&C students who are currently completing a BSc in Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning or similar. The ideal candidate will be a placement student who is available for the whole of the 2023/2024. The successful candidate will oversee the daily set up and download of GPS data from Academy training sessions, assist with warm-ups, assist with injury prevention measures, assist with the analysis of wellbeing and the general daily physical preparation of the academy players.
This exciting role is an important part to the clubs vision of creating a core of Academy based players within the first team and would provide a fantastic platform to showcase the successful candidates knowledge, delivery and potential. There is also options to work with the first team during this placement.

Job description
To assist the Sport Science staff with the download and analysis of GPS data, manage daily monitoring procedures, assist and lead gym sessions focusing on rehab, pre-hab and strength based work, to ensure players' are physically ready to train/play, assist with pitch based 'return to play' sessions and assist with anything in the realms of Sports Science and S&C.

Key responsibilities
- Daily set up and allocation of GPS vests for all sessions.
- Monitor players output live through sessions and games.
- Download data and produce reports as required.
- Provide match day/training support that includes warm up and cool downs.
- Assist in the formulation and delivery of injury prevention programmes.
- Provide regular oral and written reports at appropriate meetings associated with the Strength and Conditioning support.
- Initiate and contribute to special projects that are part of the wider development of the medical and exercise science department at the Academy.
- Plan, develop and initiate individual programmes for Academy players.
- Potential scope to work with the first team.

- To report to and work closely with the Head of Athletic Performance and Lead Physiotherapist.
- To work closely alongside all other Academy staff in support of each players development, as a member of the Sports Science Team.

Scope of job
- This position will involve approximately 30-35 hours per week and will include duties outside normal office hours including evenings, weekends and on public holidays. A commitment to 3-4 days a week is preferred.

Excellent anatomical knowledge and an ability to apply this specifically when communicating with coaches and physiotherapists.
- Ability to modify coaching style when delivering practical sessions to different populations.
- Good practical knowledge of nutrition support appropriate to the needs of high-performance athletes in training and competition.
- The ability to apply complex data and terminology to simple terms appropriate to different age groups and audiences.
- Knowledge of monitoring performance using various physiological methods.
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of relevant equipment and technology, including its operation and maintenance.
- A comprehensive understanding of the principles of periodisation in an elite environment.
- An understanding of movement principles relevant to S&C.
