Job description
About us
The Division of Infection and Immunity brings together world-leading basic, clinical and translational scientists to address the most important questions in host-pathogen interactions, host immune responses, and fundamental and translation immunology. The Division is comprised of over 43 research groups located within the Research Department of Infection, the Institute of Immunity and Transplantation and the Africa Health Research Institute, with links to the Francis Crick Institute and the NIHR UCLH Biomedical Research Centre.
The Division of Infection and Immunity is a stimulating and highly-collaborative environment with an excellent track-record of supporting early career researchers to obtain further fellowship and grant support, and to progress to Faculty positions. Potential candidates will have the opportunity to visit the Division, meet relevant Group Leaders and present a research seminar. Suitable candidates will be offered sponsorship, guidance and expert mentorship for a fellowship application.
About the role
The Research Department of Infection is looking for outstanding early career researchers who wish to establish their research group as externally-funded fellows in a world-leading and dynamic research environment. We welcome applications from candidates who are highly-motivated with an excellent track-record of achievement who are seeking support to apply for early and mid-career fellowships (e.g. Wellcome Early-Career Award, Wellcome Career Development Award, MRC Career Development Award, UKRI Future Leaders, etc).
We welcome candidates who wish to develop a research programme in any area of Infection or Infection-related Immunity aligned with the interests of the Division, including in basic, applied and clinical science (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/infection-immunity/ucl-division-infection-and-immunity).
About you
Successful candidates will be expected to have a compelling research vision with applications open to both early career researchers seeking sponsorship for postdoctoral fellowships, as well as mid-career researchers who are looking to establish their first independent research group. Applicants whose research spans multiple disciplines, and who are able to leverage UCLs broad wealth of expertise are particularly welcome.
Eligibility:
Only candidates eligible for Wellcome, UKRI, NIHR, Royal Society or EU Fellowships will be considered.
To apply, please ensure to attach the following:
1. Your CV, including details of at least two referees [max 3 pages]
2. An outline of your fellowship proposal including specific research aims [max 1 page]
3. A cover letter detailing the fellowship scheme(s) you are interested in being sponsored for, a timeline for application(s), and how you see yourself and your research programme fitting into the department [max 2 pages].
What we offer
Researchers who are successful in obtaining a fellowship will have access to world-class research facilities and laboratory space, and benefit from a structured mentoring scheme, career development support, teaching guidance and opportunities to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students. There will be an annual progress review which will include opportunities for tenure track.
As a member of the wider UCL community, successful candidates will benefit from being part of a world-leading interdisciplinary research environment.
Please contact Professor Rob Heyderman ([email protected]) or Professor Clare Jolly ([email protected]) for further information.
