Job description

We are Trafford Local Care Organisation - an exciting, new public sector organisation bringing together NHS community health services and adult social care services in Trafford. We’re driven by the aim of improving the health of local people in Trafford by working across organisational boundaries.

Our community healthcare teams in adults and children's services are employed by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and deployed to us, linking closely with our colleagues in Manchester Local Care Organisation. Our teams work as one and together we will make a massive difference to the health of people in Trafford.

The post is for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to work with children 0 - 18 with speech, language and communication needs. The role is to support the SLTs with intervention and clinical administration.

To work with the Speech and Language Therapists in the community supporting pre-school and school age children and their families in promoting language development and communication.

To independently implement Speech and Language Therapy programmes both to individual families and groups, following a Speech and Language Therapy programme.

To modify Speech and Language Therapy programmes according to children’s progress within the overall aims and objectives of the care package.

To enable families to promote language and communication in young children and to provide administrative support for speech and language intervention.

To implement specific SLT programmes in nursery groups, one to one intervention and in other settings, under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapist.

To select intervention activities from a broad range provided by the Speech and Language Therapist, judging the level of activities according to the child’s needs.

To adjust intervention according to children’s responses, making clinical judgments according to specific responses from the child and their family.

To contribute to the evaluation of Speech and Language activities, recording progress and initiating reassessment by the therapist.

To enable parents to participate in activities focusing on language development and demonstrate specific activities to parents through play.

To support the delivery of training for Speech and Language development for parents, carers and other professionals.
