Specimen Reception Deputy Team Leader – Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Basingstoke

The Deputy Team Leader supports the Team Leader in the implementation and operation of Pathology specimen reception. As deputy, you will deputise for the Team Leader and together you will be responsible for this service, which operates 7 days a week.

You will motivate your team and work closely with the Operational Managers across Blood Sciences and the Team Leader in Specimen Reception to provide a high quality service that builds on the standards defined by UKAS (the accreditation organisation). You will ensure the smooth running of the service which includes the logistics of receiving the samples, booking-in the samples and preparing them for the ongoing testing. You will be expected to develop and maintain close working relationships with your team, as well as scientific and medical colleagues.

The specimen reception is open 7 days a week, until 9pm on weekdays and during the day at weekends and bank holidays. Evening and weekend duties attract a pay enhancement.

Who we are:
Blood Sciences at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. This newly built department offers a wide range of diagnostic testing facilities for Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover Hospitals as well as local GP practices. The Trust also provides treatment for complex conditions including liver cancer, colorectal cancer and is a national surgical service for a rare cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei

Our diagnostic services are on two sites, with our main automated laboratory and specialist assays based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke and our Rapid Response Laboratory at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester. We have recently refurbished and reequipped both laboratories in the last 12 months.
