Location: Welwyn Garden City or Bromborough (hybrid working – at least 2 days per week in the office) with occasional travel to other UK sites

A day in the life of a Specification Technologist …
Reporting into the Own Label Business Unit Controller and working closely with the Own Label Customer Technical Manager, the successful candidate will have direct responsibility for the management of customer finished product specifications.
Key responsibilities will include the following:
- The co-ordination of all customer specification systems, ensuring the correct prioritisation is made to meet customer deadlines. This would include…
- Completion of specifications/questionnaires aligned with internal & external customer expectations of accuracy and content, by proactively sourcing required information.
- Supporting the technical team in the calculation of nutritional and ingredient declarations.
- Checking, maintaining and managing data within specification management systems, plus ensuring that respective parties within the business are kept up to date.
- The co-ordination of the artwork approval process, which includes…
- Working with internal/external teams to ensure pack copy generation that is aligned with customer specification and approval to agreed critical path.
- Supporting the technical team by providing labelling and nutritional advice.
- Managing Brandbank approvals and communication
- Supporting factory teams with customer complaint enquiries, which includes…
- Analysis of data received and follow up on agreed actions.
- Completing customer scorecards and KPIs.
- Monitoring nutritional analysis; initiating corrective actions as appropriate.
- Adhoc support to the technical team, such as…
- Raising POs
- Audits and customer visits
- Keeping the wider business updated of upcoming changes
- Shopping for product samples and updating master documents
What will make you successful?
- Competence in working with most of the retailer specification systems and having exceptional attention to detail is essential.
- Exceptional organisation skills (excellent planning and workload prioritisation skills) with an ability to problem solve/analyse data.
- A strong team player, who is a self-starter and a good communicator that has a flexible can-do approach.
- Competent IT skills (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and web-based software).
- Experience in a technical role within the food industry, or a relevant Food Science degree essential.
- Knowledge & understanding of the Own Label market.
