SPECIALIST YOUNG PERSON’S WORKER, UNACCOMPANIED ASYLUM-SEEKING CHILDREN SERVICE, PERMANENT, 37 HPW, FRWK10 £25,292 – £27, 592

We are recruiting a Specialist Young Person’s Worker to coordinate the support identified on a co-produced support plan with Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children who are Looked After by Nottinghamshire Children’s Services.
Our aim is to ensure that all support needs are comprehensively met by linking in relevant support services, working alongside a Nottingham Refugee Forum worker and supporting young people with their asylum status. Facilitating the development of young people’s life skills and building on the strengths that they already possess is key.
The role involves shift work, including some weekends and evenings. The role will involve travelling but this can be done by public transport.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Build effective relationships with young people referred into and living at the service.
- Travel to meet with young people in dispersed housing.
- Carry a caseload of young people, acting as their keyworker, co-producing support plans, risk assessments, crisis plans and safety plans.
- Attend all relevant statutory and multi-agency events (Child In Need Reviews, Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences, Looked After Children Reviews, Core Group Meetings, Strategy Meetings and Multi Agency Meetings) in respect of young people on the worker’s caseload.
- Proactively support young people to plan for move on from the service. This includes advising on housing options, supporting with applications for housing to local authorities and exploring private sector accommodation options.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has an excellent understanding of the issues that affect young people.
- Has experience of working with young people in an accommodation or youth work setting.
- Has experience of engaging with young people and building positive working relationships.
- Has an understanding of professional boundaries and Trauma Informed Care.
- Has intermediate IT skills as a minimum. Competent in MS Office and client record systems.
- Has a solid understanding of Child Protection and the Safeguarding needs of both adults and children/young people.
