Job description
FURTHER INFORMATION
An opportunity has arisen within the High Incidence Needs Team (HINT) Gateshead Council for a Specialist Teacher for Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs - MPS/UPS + TLR2b (£5,192) + SEN 1 (£2,384).
We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced teacher to provide specialist advice, guidance, training and development opportunities to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEMH needs to a range of schools and settings within Gateshead.
The SEMH team sits within the Special Educational Needs Inclusion Team and is well-established and well-regarded by partner agencies. The service is expanding to realise our ambitious plans to support children through the transition from primary to secondary school and beyond.
You will have excellent knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development, the barriers to learning which social, emotional and mental health needs can present and be able to draw upon a range of strategies and interventions to overcome such barriers. You will also have knowledge of current national SEND policy and practice and the requirements for Safeguarding and Child Protection.
You will have experience teaching pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, Qualified Teacher Status and a current driving licence and access to a car or means to mobility support. You will also have understanding of trauma-informed practice.
Experience of multi-agency working practices, working across the curriculum for all phases from Early Years to post-16 and providing advice and training to schools or other settings would be an advantage. It is also preferable that you have a degree (or further qualification) and hold a further qualification in SEND.
We offer excellent development opportunities. You will join a supportive team of experienced professionals dedicated to providing high quality support and advice to Gateshead schools and settings on behalf of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and their families.
If successful, you will have to apply for enhanced Disclosure.
