An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Occupational therapist with acute medicine experience to join the Medicine therapy team at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust
The acuteMedicineteam is basedacrossbothSandwell General Hospital and Birmingham City Hospital.The team comprises of physiotherapist, occupational therapist, therapy assistant practitioners and a frailty activity assistant. The entire qualified therapists areregistered with the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) andarealsomembers of theChartered Society of Physiotherapyand Royal College of Occupational therapy. We work closely withmembers of the other allied health professional like Dieticians and Speech and language therapistto support the independence and rehabilitation of our service users
We work to improve theTherapystatus of inpatients and the management of long term conditions. We work in a variety of specialist areasincludingCareof the elderly wards, Cardiology, Haematology, Gastroenterology and General Medical wards.We also workvery closely with other teams within the therapy cohort namely Respiratory, stroke (neuro), Macmillan and Trauma and Orthopaedic therapy teams. The Medicine therapy team have also close ties with the community rehab bedsbased at Rowley Regis andLeasowesto establish appropriate patients are sent through and also for an efficient continuity of care from an acute to a community setting.
Complete therapeutic assessment and treatment of medical patient in Cardiology, Gastroentrology, Respiratory and Care of the elderly wards.
Understanding and completing discharge planning for patient having therapy or social needs. Using the national guidlines for pathways
Completing access, site and home visit wheere neccessary. Also promoting the discharge to access model for patients.
Completing Moving and Handling plans for patients using various equipments like full hoist, cricket stand aid, Arjo Hoist, Roat stands etc.
Supervising junior members of staff and therapy support workers and also student for various West midlands Universities.
Contributing in in-service training and teaching with the team and the mider MDT.
