Job description
The Microbiology department at Maidstone Hospital have a permanent post available for Specialist Biomedical Scientists (BMS band 6) following promotion of the existing post holder.
We would ideally prefer you to have IBMS Specialist Diploma and at least three years post HCPC registration experience in a microbiology department , however we would be happy to receive applications from HCPC registered candidates working towards the IBMS Specialist diploma, or an MSc in Microbiology, as training can be provided. There may be an opportunity for newly qualified graduates with an IBMS accredited degree on a 12 month fixed term post to train to complete the IBMS Registration portfolio and then move to substantive on successful completion of HCPC Registration.
The department has the following main pieces of equipment: Biomeriuex Blood culture analysers and Vitek 2, Mast Urisystem, Bruker Maldi ToF, Enteric bio PCR for bacteria, viruses and some parasites, Perkin Elmer and Bruker Hain molecular equipment for CoVid, TB and Aspergillus PCR,Roche 4800, BD Midget, Abbott Architect and Biomerieux Vidas for serology. All HCPC Registered staff will be expected to rotate through all sections of the department and join the on call rota following suitable competency assesment.
In return we offer an interesting and challenging role within the friendly microbiology team. We pride ourselves on being a UKAS 15189:2012 accredited laboratory offering a high quality service to both hospitals and GPs. Specialties covered include : paediatrics, haemato oncology. opthalmology, general surgery and medicine, orthopaedics and sexual health.
