Job Introduction Do you wish to contribute to the outcomes and provision for children and young people (CYP) 0-25 years with sensory needs in settings, schools, colleges and in the home? Then this could be the role you have been searching for. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Sensory Needs Team in a highly rewarding role, particularly as these roles do not come up very often. We have two roles; the first one specialising in children and young people (CYP) with deafness, which will involve some use of BSL. The second opportunity is working with those with a vision impairment, which will involve the use of Braille. Training will be provided where necessary. Both roles would also cover those CYP with a multi-sensory impairment. You will adapt materials and use specialist equipment to enable CYP with sensory needs to access the curriculum and wider life of the school. You will also support school colleagues and parents and carers by modelling the use of equipment, delivering direct interventions, and providing advice and support. You will build the capacity of schools and settings by contributing to training programmes designed and developed by advisory teachers. We are looking for candidates who will: support the child/young person by establishing an encouraging relationship, ensuring aids and equipment are functioning satisfactorily and encouraging independence. support the teachers and other professionals involved with the CYP in developing a programme of support with clearly identified outcomes, to monitor progress and feedback to Advisory Teachers and school-based staff through clear records, case logging and face to face meetings. support the school by fostering links between home and school, liaising and consulting with members of the team, including other professionals working with the family or school. The Sensory Needs Service is a dedicated, friendly and welcoming team of teachers, support staff and specialist teaching assistants who will work with you to make sure your knowledge and skills are used to support the CYP on caseload.
