Would you like to assist young people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to travel safely and independently?

We have an exciting opportunity to join Essex County Council as a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Travel Trainer

Please note that this role is West London based, covering the areas of Acton, Ealing and Park Royal. Travel Training in Ealing is operated by Essex County Council.


In this role, you will be central to achieving positive outcomes for young people and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities within the Ealing area, supporting them in becoming safe independent travellers and enabling them to live richer, more fulfilling lives.

This is a diverse role, and you will work with other highly motivated Travel Trainers. Role responsibilities will include:

    • Deliver travel training to clients on a 1:1 basis including high quality road safety training
    • Visit young people and adults in their homes to assess and develop tailored journey plans
    • Develop bespoke training plans for each client, considering their additional needs, complexities of the routes they may travel and any other factors, continually managing risk through their training sessions
    • Provide ongoing feedback to the client and referrer, to negotiate next steps in the travel training plan
    • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new organisations, attending events where applicable, to raise awareness of the support available and secure new referrals to meet future targets.
    • Support the wider travel training team where applicable.

What you will bring

    • Educated to ‘A’ level / NVQ level 3 within a relevant sector, plus 5 GCSE’s A-C (new GCSE 4-9) including English and Math’s or equivalent) or equivalent experience in the field
    • Experience within an SEN or adult social care setting is imperative, and you should be able to evidence your passion, energy, and enthusiasm for working within this sector
    • Excellent
    • Motivated to instil confidence in others whilst building strong rapport.
    • Highly organised, with good IT skills and ability to meet deadlines.
