About the department – Space and Spectrum Policy
Our space and spectrum policy practice provides policy research and advice which gives purpose to a wide array of projects, whether in terms of space-for-space and space-for-earth ambitions. The space industry is accelerating at an immense pace, impacting the socio-economic sphere, to governance, to the environment and peace and security. Our strategic support covers both traditional models of space development, as well as the rise of NewSpace capabilities and emerging technologies such as drones, HAPs, or cybersecurity in space. We help all stakeholders to navigate around technical, business and regulatory changes that could have an impact on the businesses, governments and international organizations. Our practice opens a door between the technical world and policy world. We analyse national and regional policies and industries, we organize global campaigns, we help new technologies to be introduced to new markets while supporting governments to future-proof their policies and regulations. We follow and contribute where possible to decision-making processes in international organizations at all levels.
The opportunity
Programme Length: Two years, including rotation
We are looking for highly motivated and passionate individuals who want to apply their strategic thinking and commercial knowledge into a structured 2 year, rotational Analyst Programme.
Your first year will be with the above department followed by 2 x 6 months placements in other areas of our business. We have three core areas of focus, called our “pillars”

  • Fair Tech policy provides thought leadership and fit-for-purpose tech regulation, market access and economic impact analysis globally, working with governments, multilaterals, donor organisations and the private sector.
  • Policy Innovation focuses on state-of-the-art, fit-for-purpose policies for technology cantered on US, EU and UK, working with those governments and clients offering the very latest thinking on tech products and services.
  • Policy Implementation translates and contextualises policy and supports market access globally, with a special focus on emerging markets in LATAM, MENA and Africa

You will be supported by an extensive learning and development programme alongside the role and will receive feedback from us throughout the process to continuously improve upon and learn new skills.

What you can expect to be doing*

  • Draft high-quality memoranda, presentations, and marketing materials on short timelines.
  • Develop public policy positions, advocacy strategies, and talking points based on commercial interests.
  • Build and maintain a network of government and industry contacts in key markets; collaborate with stakeholders on positions in intergovernmental processes.
  • Research and analyse policy topics, political trends, processes, and regulations.
  • Help drive the business strategy and execute on customer deliverables.
  • Writing for audience, topic and format including proof reading, using impactful and contextual story telling for both client (external) and internal stakeholders
  • Working with trade bodies, advisers and other third parties to help identify and communicate trends as well as potential risks to our clients

What you will bring*
Essential:

  • Exceptionally strong knowledge of existing institution and frameworks in the Policy sector
  • Recent experience of high level political/policy engagement and legislative engagement in your current or previous roles.
  • Proven ability and experience of developing advocacy strategies and shaping policy in support of clients.
  • Good knowledge of technology policy issues and debates in particular
  • Excellent written skills and ability to draft policy analysis, advocacy collaterals, white papers and articles.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Toolkit (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint)
  • Experience in event organisation like roundtables, training, or conferences.
  • Ability to represent AP at meetings and conferences.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Space Policy changes and main debates
  • Experience in supporting Diversity, Equality and Inclusion initiatives in an organisation
  • Experience in business development initiatives and lead generation
  • Be at least Degree educated in a subject such Law, Economics & Engineering related
