The OpportunityThe ING UK Corporate Finance and Capital Markets Graduate Programme provides young talent the opportunity to learn more about core and client facing areas of ING Wholesale Banking’s Capital Markets and Advisory business area. The aim of this programme is to upskill talent and prepare you for future roles in our organisation. During the programme you will get hands-on experience of what is involved in the day-to-day role as a junior team member in the Corporate Finance, Debt Capital Markets and adjacent departments. The total duration of the programme is 12 months, inclusive of two rotations. During the initial orientation period, you will receive, together with the other graduates, initial training to introduce you to ING and the regulatory, legal and compliance components of your job. Our Teams• Department Overview: Corporate Finance (CF), London• Corporate Finance (CF) department in London is an international hub that predominantly advises shareholders or management boards on mergers & acquisition transactions in the mid- and large cap market in key Sectors for the Wholesale Bank.• Our CF teams provide corporate and institutional clients, listed and private companies, with a comprehensive range of strategic and financial advisory services in relation to sell- and buy-side transactions, mergers, public offers, management and leveraged buy-outs, take-over defence assistance, corporate restructuring, private placements, fairness opinions and monitoring trustee services. Th CF team in London works closely with other CF offices including the main Benelux hub in Amsterdam, along with offices in Brussels, Madrid, Frankfurt, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong.• Department Overview: High Yield Debt Capital Markets (HY DCM, London)• The London-based Debt Capital Markets Group covers non-investment grade and selected emerging market debt issuers. The group is responsible for providing advice to corporate issuers and private equity clients on the raising of debt for acquisitions, refinancings, restructurings and leveraged buy-outs. The team works closely with relationship managers, bond syndicate, loan capital markets and acquisition finance. • DCM is divided into 4 major categories: Investment Grade Corporates, Investment Grade Financial Institutions, Emerging Markets and High Yield. These divisions operate in Europe, Asia and the US The Programme and Your RolesMain Duties and Responsibilities of Role: Holistic learning experience rotating within Corporate Finance and High Yield Debt Capital Markets departments. Two rotations of six months each, during the period of 12 months. Two-week training course in the first quarter of the programme (in Amsterdam and London), meeting and networking with other ING trainees. Corporate Finance Rotation: learn about M&A transactions and origination, including valuation topics and financial analysis, M&A strategic drivers, M&A execution and origination activities, portfolio rotation/disposals. Exposure to different sectors, including Financial Sponsors, TMT, Transportation & Logistics, Infrastructure, Energy & Commodities and New Energy Technologies. Activities can be either transaction orientated or in support of marketing. A significant portion of time is spent on due diligence, document processing, financial and statistical analysis under the direct supervision of a VP, Associate or Analyst. Key activities include:- Origination (a) drafting marketing materials including pitch books and presentations (b) detailed analysis of targets including valuation (c) market research and competitor analysis.- Deal execution (a) supporting with valuation and financial analysis (b) supporting with key transaction administration (dataroom, Q&A, meeting coordination etc) (c) Assisting with day-to-day process coordination with clients and other advisers (d) Processing of documents for internal project approvals.- Supporting the team in monitoring sector information and collection of market data and dynamics on an annual rotating basis in support of Corporate Finance UK-based international Sector teams.High Yield DCM Rotation: learn about leveraged finance with a specific focus on high yield DCM transactions and origination. Develop knowledge of different bond structures, pricing, the primary and secondary market, execution of transactions, interest rates, swaps and other money market instruments. Key activities include:- Preparing pitches and pricing updates for potential clients, undertaking relevant analysis and identifying relevant comparables - Keeping abreast of changes in the macroeconomy, bond and leveraged loan markets to identify issuance opportunities for clients- Guiding clients on how to structure, market and prepare for upcoming transactions, while always taking into consideration how to optimise clients’ capital structures- Marketing the product towards ING clients, selling ING’s knowledge and capabilities in the market and the product with the support of VPs, Ds and/ or MDs- Liaising with ING counterparts on new opportunities, identifying HY opportunities and educating ING counterparts on the product and current market environment- Assisting in transaction execution and taking a lead role in certain aspects thereof (including working on presenting clients’ credit stories to investors)Candidate ProfileQualification/Education Essential: Master’s degree from a university, preferably in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Investment or Engineering Undergraduate degrees with previous relevant internship experience will be consideredDesirable: CFA level 1Experience/KnowledgeEssential: Prior exposure to the finance industry Fluent in professional English in both verbal and written formProficiency with Excel and PowerPoint Ability to present in a coherent, convincing and confident mannerDesirable: Previous work experience within the wholesale banking, investment banking or leverage finance domains Experience through various extracurricular activities Fluency in an additional European languagePersonal CompetenciesEssential: Pro-active go-getter mentality with a strong work ethic, flexibility of approach, the willingness to work under pressure and with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
