The post-holder will function as part of the clinic’s nursing team working within the TFP Simply Fertility clinic in Chelmsford, undertaking scans to establish antral follicle count, follicular tracking & early pregnancy viability.
This role is part time, 4 days per week. Varied shifts include 8am-4pm, 9am-5pm, 10am-6pm.
Occasional weekends/national bank holidays cover when required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Scanning:
- Provide ultrasound services to the highest quality.
- Perform ultrasound examinations and compile concise and comprehensive reports.
- To enter patient information completely and accurately onto the clinic patient database.
- Ensure excellent communication with service users and key partners so that their needs and views are taken into account in the planning and monitoring of service delivery.
- Be able to clearly explain sonography procedure to patients and making them at ease.
- Be able to independently perform diagnostic monitoring scans during IVF treatment and early pregnancy.
- The ability to explain technical terms in a clear and understandable way.
- To co-ordinate oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer/intrauterine insemination, donor insemination, provide appropriate counselling, support and advice with cycle outcome.
Fertility Treatments:
- To assist in the management, and support of sub-fertile couples before, during and after treatment cycles, developing a therapeutic environment to meet the individual needs of the couples.
- To demonstrate excellent communication skills, providing information and implications counselling (including risks around treatment) to enable couples to make informed choices regarding their treatment.
- To ensure that all records (paper & electronic) are completed & recorded completely & accurately but patients & clinic staff.
General Practice:
- To work within the legal framework as laid out by the 1990 Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act of Parliament and Care Quality Commission
- Taking blood samples, cannulation etc.
- To demonstrate use of excellent communication skills to support patients and families in highly stressful situations (e.g. breaking bad news, diagnosis of ectopic or miscarriage, managing bereavement and anger management) both face to face and over the telephone.
- To ensure COSHH, Infection Control, Risk Management and maintenance of health and safety within the department is implemented according to unit policy and that every effort is made to identify and minimise potential risks/hazards.
- Participate in the clinic’s Quality Management System, including audits, risk assessments, complaints & incident management
Required Experience / Skills:
- Fertility ultrasound skills (antral follicle counts, follicle tracking, early pregnancy)
- BFS qualification (or equivalent)
- Computer skills
- Phlebotomy
Desirable Experience / Skills
- Professional registration (e.g. HCPC, SCoR)
- Ultrasound Qualifications (e.g. Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, DMU)
