We are looking for an experienced Solutions Engineer to join our expanding global IT team, capable of delivering cloud technology solutions through service excellence. The role requires a highly customer-centric approach and strong cloud technology skills. Hands-on technical experience in business estates utilizing Microsoft Windows, Office 365, and Azure is essential.


The Solution Engineer will design and build modern integrations and business solutions using Azure services and the Microsoft Power Platform. You will work closely with the IT Operations, Security, and Software Development teams to ensure the solutions are based on modern technologies that are scalable, and secure.


The role includes a considerable amount of autonomy, complexity and professional development opportunities. Strong communication and self-organization skills alongside a desire to deliver excellence will be required.


This new role sits within Group IT and its primary objective is to deliver projects. The team is governed by the Global Head of IT & Security and comprises Development and Operations personnel. The team delivers a mixture of projects including IT integrations of new business initiatives, strategic IT projects and requests from various business areas. The team works with colleagues globally across the Group and with various suppliers and outsourcers to achieve and fulfil their objectives.


As a Solution Engineer, you will be comfortable leading smaller IT projects, creating solutions and providing 2nd and 3rd line guidance to our technical teams. You will work collaboratively with other functions to implement technology platforms, integrations, and services. You will be comfortable continually learning new skills to stay up to date with the latest technologies and industry trends.


You will initially be focused on a large programme of work related to the re-design of enterprise cloud services alongside making improvements to platforms hosting custom in-house software applications. Working closely with the Chief Information Security Officer and Group Head of IT; You will need to have close attention to detail, experience in analysing complex data, and a strong understanding of implementing various technology solutions.

You must have experience in delivering solutions utilizing the Azure & Office 365 technology stack (PaaS, SaaS, IaaS) within large-scale IT environments.


Primary Responsibilities

Working within the UK IT Operations team and reporting to the London-based IT Manager, the role involves:


  • Design and configurate cloud services including Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Microsoft Exchange, and Security Controls. Interpreting high-level blueprints, reference architectures into low-level design solutions.
  • Act as a 3rd line support for escalated cloud service issues. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders with cloud service matters, transferring skills and knowledge to the IT operations & Software Development teams where applicable.
  • Documenting & reporting technology requirements. Creating & maintaining necessary documentation related to technical systems & business processes including diagrams, registers, reports, data models, Wiki, and user guides.
  • Working closely with the IT operations/security/development teams to analyse, design, document, implement, support and administer cloud technology solutions.
  • Ensuring all products and services lifecycles are managed in line with the best practice & corporate standards.
  • Engagement with the Agile Scrum & Project workflow processes. Ensuring work is passed over efficiently for the Project Manager & stakeholders to manage the project to fruition.
  • Supporting the variety of different cloud systems and supplier relationships to provide an optimal user experience for staff. Supporting business intelligence initiatives using data manipulation & reporting. This includes some 2nd & 3rd line support for the mission critical cloud applications & integrations where required.
  • Ensuring that governance and compliance considerations such as Information Security and GDPR are fully considered throughout IT processes. Ensuring there is a clear and consistent approach to IT processes and procedures.
  • Assist with training IT personnel and end users in the correct usage for technology applications and supporting staff through the initial adoption phases of innovative technologies.
  • Simplifying and streamlining existing solutions (continuous improvement)

Experience & Skills


To be successful in this role you will have demonstrable experience within a Solution Engineer role, or equivalent knowledge gained within an IT environment. You will also:


  • Be an accomplished cloud technologist with a broad range of general IT knowledge, able to seamlessly and efficiently get diverse tasks to align in pursuit of technical excellence. With a desire to continually improve, learn, and strive for excellence in a dynamically changing global environment.
  • Have hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows, Azure and Office 365 and related management tools such as Power Platform, Intune, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, etc. in addition to an understanding of CRM, ERP and BI solutions.
  • Have hands-on experience in implementing data solutions, integrations & automated workflows from transformation to visualisation within Azure cloud utilizing the Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, API Gateway, Logic Apps etc.)
  • Have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Must be a confident and articulated communicator, able to manage at times challenging stakeholders. Able to design draft and communicate process documentation that is user friendly and fit for purpose to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Have an organised, systematic approach and great attention to both quality & detail alongside excellent troubleshooting and implementation skills.
  • Have experience in a delivery-orientated IT environment using agile methodologies and tooling, such as Azure DevOps & CI/CD. A detailed understanding of technical unit testing with test automation frameworks is desirable.
  • Understand GDPR and have a good general grounding around Information Security.
  • Be a self-starter, able to manage and prioritise their own workload - collaborative with a global team and inclusive without needing too much supervision.
  • Be very tech-savvy – even if your background is not strictly system or software engineering, you will need a good overall knowledge of IT, Software, Infrastructure, Architecture, and Cloud services.
  • Knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous: Agile, Asset Management, DevOps, Enterprise Architecture, GDPR, IaaS, Information Security, Investor Relations, ITIL, Networking, PaaS, Project Management, Programming, Renewables, SaaS, Scripting, Solar.
